Are solar panels manufactured and shipped from China really cleaner and better for national security?

Since we don't usually charge to a full 100%, your underlying assumption is incorrect. If it makes you feel better, the engine can charge the battery while it sits for that 60 seconds. Or can it? My understanding is the EV mode is only recharged by regen...

What do you mean by 100%? No PiP can charge to 100%. Or do you mean the max that the car will let you?

EV mode can be recharged by regen or excess ICE energy.

its always good to be nationalistic - and that's actually why we bought "SunPower" brand inverters and panels ... they're still made in the good ol USA. You're not trying to trap me - are you?
    ;)
But seriously - if its all someone can afford - even panels from China will reduce the amount of our oil imports.
Hugh? I'm not sure what assumptions you're talking about - but my charger timer allows me to charge for as little as 10 minutes or charge to 80% if I were so inclined. So in other words .... there are lots of options.

Looks like the only foot print here is from the bare feet on the roof. Great photo with your panels, but looks like you left the shoes behind:LOL:

Nope! This thinking is necessary in order to leave the world a better place for our descendants.

Someone should be thinking about it, certainly. However, filling a car owners' chat group with abstruse calculations that focus with laser-like intensity on some aspects of an issue, while ignoring others (reduced engine life from 'running starts' in Winter, for example) is doing more harm than good. Why? Because it drives away people who are interested in the cars for practical and/or philosophical reasons, not because they love to do spreadsheets and calculate watt losses. The best solution I've seen is to have a few topics for techie stuff, and try to keep it more practical and understandable in the rest.

No but I assume it's pretty high, hopefully it will drop in the next couple of months.

Nah... Elections over so the Big Oil Companies can raise the price now cause it won't hurt the candidates they bought at the polls! ;)

I found a place with 3 charging stations for free right next to my office about a 10 min walk. It's an Amtrak station and no one really uses them. I'm charging it right now but not sure if I can keep up with it as it's like 2 minute of walking for 1 free EV mile.

The amtrak station is about a 10min walk from my work so 20min RT. Which means for a 20min walk, I get 10-12 EV miles. I was just saying I'm not sure if I can do that on a long term basis. I'm doing it now because I just got the car so it's new and kinda fun. But when the fun factor wears off, I might say F-it.

OK, thanks. For some reason I was just not understanding the statement. It makes sense now (Fog has lifted from the brain).

Does the charge significantly aid your commute? Or is it just a band-aid solution where your commute is 50-60 miles and doesn't really help at all?

my commute is 82 miles RT and I think I can get around 80 miles/gallon with two charges(once at home, and once at work). But as mentioned earlier, I got the PiP for the HOV sticker as I can knock about 40min total off my commute.
