Morning's DRIVE section has a mixed article on Plug-ins. From a Julie Wenau of Chicago Tribune 'Electric cars, no longer an odditry, make few inroads on market'

Starts off well enough talking about Volt, Leaf, Plug-in Prius, but their reference to 60 mile range in Leaf in Chicago, driving home with wife and two small children, forced to drive with heat off and lower speeds didn't do any favors.

Check it out. It's a mixed bag.

Have a link to it? Name of the paper?

Welcome to the political world that is EV/PHEV. Even the "positive" articles have many negatives.

Is this the guy who parks a partially charged Leaf at the airport then runs out of juice on the way home? Just because the gauge says you have the range doesn't make it so.

With any car, you must plan to refuel before you run out. The shorter range and limited infrastructure for EVs makes this task a bit more critical. There will always be someone who fails to plan properly, or who buys a car that is not suited to his needs. But this is true of gas also. How about the guy who runs out of gas in the Mojave desert with his wife and kids in the car? Or the guy who buys a Honda Civic and expects to tow his boat with it?

EVs have their limitations. They are a good fit for some people.
