Did your dealer refuse to do it for you? I'm sure they could do it but my dealer refuse to do it. They gave me some lame excuse saying they don't have the right software.

My dealer did it for me for free and no hassle. It will beep just once when you put it reverse, but not constant. You can't do it yourself, you need a scan tool.

do a search here. there are extensive threads. I didn't feel like waiting to get to my dealer so I bought the recommended components (pretty cheap) and it was pretty easy.

The dealer changed reverse to one beep during 10K service. There are instructions in other threads to change with a ScanGuage.

At one of the earlier service intervals (I think it was the brakes firmware update), I told the dealer my wife refused to drive the car with the multiple reverse beeps, and while he already had TechStream up and running for the firmware update, could they alter that to the one beep? BINGO - free.

I confess I would have guessed closer to 100 threads, but that is in part because you could change it in a Gen 2 without tools, so the Gen 3 folks thought they were doing it wrong.

This poster has only two posts, we can give him time to find Search.

I just bought my 2013 Prius 3 on Friday and I told them I wanted the reverse beep turned off before I would buy it. They turned it off except for 1 beep.

Yeah, I think the 1 beep is something that we aren't going to be rid of. It's not so bad - it's an audible confirmation that the reverse has been engaged.

I hate the continuing beep like everyone else. But "reverse" is in an unusual place on the gearshift, and it's helpful to have a signal about whether the car is or is not in reverse. Maybe I'll go to one beep the next time I see the dealer.

It goes PRNDL, where someone at Toyota was to honest to use L as it does not use lower gearing. US Law requires PRND in a clock wise order (where you put other gears is optional)

Any advice on getting the change to one beep done for free? I called the service department at the dealership where I purchased my Prius in July. I was told that it would cost north of $100. I then talked to my salesman and told him that there were threads all over the internet that described it as a 5 minute job and couldn't they just do it for free. He talked to the service department and said he was told it was a 1/2 hour job and they would have to charge me $50. On principal, I don't think I should have to pay anything to rid myself of what is clearly considered an annoyance by large numbers of buyers, and ultimately could actually be a safety issue. Imagine backing out of a parking space in a busy parking lot and an approaching vehicle, seeing that you are backing out, taps his horn to warn you. Of course you won't hear it because you are listening to a constant beep-beep-beep inside your car! Anyway, I don't know that I have any leverage going to a different dealership. Is there a national customer service for Toyota that would even care or be willing to do anything?

Schedule it to be done with some other service, so they already have the car in there. If they won't add this for free, go to a different dealer.

Your dealer sucks!!!! As rdgrimes said, they should do it for free when you are in for service. It's 5 mins. maximum.

David L, you can get an OBDII reader off of Amazon for under $20 and change the reverse beep setting to 1 beep yourself. It's very easy and you don't have to try to get your service department to do it for "free".

Boy do I wish for this as well. I scared the poop out of my neighbor a couple of days ago backing up in the driveway.
