Emergency Break Light won't turn on

    Hey I own a 2005 Toyota prius and when I turn on the car, all the lights on the dashboard turn on but when the e break wont turn on when i put the e break on.

    What exactly must I do to fix this problem? Someone said checking to see if the switch was maybe messed up

    Yeah, turning on the vehicle engages the e break light. But once the car settles in, the light goes out, but the ebreak is still engaged.

    i can't remember my gen 2's, but the 3 doesn't have one. i'll double check.

    The first image is of
    Turning it on and the light coming on but after the engine starts the light goes out even though the e break is still engaged

    The switch is attached near the top of the e-brake pedal linkage. Over time, the fastener connecting the switch to the linkage self loosens enough such that the linkage can no longer close the switch when the e-brake is released. Typically when this happens the e-brake light stays on all the time regardless of whether or not the e-brake is engaged.

    Your situation is unusual in that the switch seems to be stuck closed - somehow. This might mean that the switch on your e-brake has not loosened from the linkage and the switch has stuck closed for some reason. Or the switch did loosen, fall off and got stuck somewhere and closed the switch - which seems very unlikely.

    If you must have the e-brake light you will need to remove part of the dashboard to remove the pedal linkage. Good luck with that.

    I don't have a problem removing he dash as my dad is a mechanic, he just can't seem
    To find the said switch, you said it's on top of the e breaks pedal?

    It's near the top of the linkage on the firewall side of the e-brake. You can see it if you look under the dash with a flashlight. It's in a really difficult place to see but if you can contort yourself enough to look upward from underneath the dash with a flashlight you will see it. Otherwise you'll need the service manual to understand where it is and how to get to it.
