I am thinking of replacing the engine air filter and was wondering what brand do you get. I just replaced the cabin filter with a FRAM brand 2 days back but not sure what brand should I get for the engine air filter...

Been thinking this same thing lately, actually sitting at the dealer right now I'm assuming they'll recommend a air filter change this go around. I'll likely stick with a Toyota filter but I'll install it, I don't need to pay them $XX to install an air filter that takes 5 mins to install.

I usually stick to OEM, but order on-line where prices are better (often with free shipping).

I replaced my engine air filter recently with a Toyota brand filter. It was a very high quality filter. Can't say the same for the Toyota cabin filter. Might look at another brand next time.

Since you are at the dealer can you get the part no for the Toyota OEM engine filter?

I usually stick with OEM brand air filter and cabin air filter. Why cheap yourself on these type of maintenance? you save a few bucks but if its a cheap air filter, it'll get clogged faster with dirt and dust because of cheap materials from aftermarket brand.

Engine air filter is usually 30k
Cabin air filter is usually 15k

It all depends on where you live, different region is more polluted than most so it collects more dirt and dust.

If you have an air compressor you can blow the dust and dirt out between changes. I live in a dusty area so I check mine every 10K and usually change every 30K. So far I have used OEM or NAPA filters.

I stick with the OEM filter since this is something that is only changed every two years or so. The OEM filter is a nice heavy-duty filter.

I changed my engine air filter at 30k miles just to satisfy warranty requirements even though it did not need changing. I checked it again recently at 50k miles and it had a little dust and few pieces of road trash. Like tumbleweed I used an air compressor with low pressure and blew the dust and trash off of the filter. When held to the sunlight you could see right through the filter even at the ribs.

I re-installed the filter and will check again in another 15k miles.

Had my 35k checkup at the dealer yesterday, I'm on the original air filter still, I asked them if they checked it since it is original and he indicated the filter is part of their service checkup, and I am sure they'd push for a filter if it was in need. So 35k and dealer says i'm still ok. I do a lot of highway miles though about 1400 per month so probably prolonging my filters life some

I changed the engine air filter in our v at ~9500 miles. The filter was fairly dirty although definitely not clogged yet. Seems like pretty cheap insurance to me to change it every year. Would rather have the peace of mind of knowing I have a clean filter and not worry about impact to mpgs or worse other engine problems created by an excessively clogged filter.

I never replaced the cabin air filter (on my 4th Prius since gen 1 in 2000)...a total of ~200K miles. I don't use the fan that much and it must not be too dirty/dusty where I drive. The few times I've checked they look clean.
