I can imagine seat belt would need to be replaced as well.

I don’t understand why they would need to be replaced..please educate me. I know if you grab a seat belt and pull it quickly it will lock as intended. If after the accident it still works that way then why replace a proper functioning part that otherwise appears to have no damage?

They have some sort of pre-tensioner (used to be pyro-technic explosive charge, but could be different now) which, at least in my old VOLVO, is linked to an airbag deployment and will tension the belt - thus ruining the belt.

Yes, the normal lock may work, but the pretensioner, which is a sacrificial, once only item, won't ever work again (just like the airbags).

<EDIT> - reading on GOOGLE, it seems that some cars have electric, or even hydraulic on some older ones. The electric ones may be reusable. Many are mounted at the Buckle end, some at the retractor end.

I'm pretty sure the Toyota ones have them at the retractor. I say this because there are wires going to it. ;) There is also one wire at the buckle but that is for the belt connected sense.

    Apologise for late follow.
So the thing is that after airbags deployment one cant start engine but you can start it up by car battery booster and drive with all icons being light on :)
    But one can drive it.

As you get to mechanic you have to dissamble airbag module and put a new one .

wouldn't that mean the 12v is low?

    That could be true.
It is also possible the air bag issue can be reset for one drive by disconnecting & reconnecting the 12 volt battery. I believe some other code have a one use reset like that.

You will find the forum members are extremely helpful and know an awesome amount about how the Prius operates. It is a pleasure seeing how easily they share this info with those of us not in the know. Hope your baby gets well soon and Merry Christmas to your family!

I noticed this thread has just gotten active again. I read the whole thing and the one thing never mentioned is the car needs to be scanned for codes. It would be a logical step. JMO

Just a theory, but I seem to recall that there is a fusible link in one of the G4 12v battery connections, I suspect this may have blown, disconnecting the battery. Connecting a booster to the 12v will trip the HV battery relay into action possibly enabling the car to start.

    Yes.
airbag deployment dissconet battery. You cannot start the engine, boosting it up allows to drive it, that what we did there.
All icons were falshing like crazy :D :D :D but it was ok to drive it.

At the shop, my mechanic took the airbag module and scanned put it back, in the meantime we install new airbags (side and courtain) and everything was ok :)
