The coolant hoses are connected to the Heat exhaust recirculation system, not the cat.

No - there were 2 separate diagrams - this is the relevant one:

In many parts of the world we don't have extreme cold - I'm not aware of how extensively it's in USA cars - could be all? This article (TOYOTA early Gen4 publicity) seems to indicate that - if you've got active grille shutters, you've got the other:

Got it now, so there's one in front of the first joint right next to the manifold.

Seems so - not sure why 2, though. I've only seen 2 before on a car with dual exhausts.

Good grief, I didn't say CONNECTED,I said CLOSE PROXIMITY. I'm sure Toyota designed the thing very carefully, but still, that's a lot of radiating heat very close to the hoses.

You could always wrap the exhaust with fiberglass.

So I got my car back! They only charged me 70$ ,the first 2 days out of 8 days with their borrowed car. I uploaded the paperwork with the parts that they have changed. Strangely part # 1741037B52 when I look it up comes out as a Toyota prime part..

I would imagine almost all parts between the different Prii are interchangeable. Glad it wasn't expensive for you though.

1741037B50 - Pipe assembly, exhaust, front. Engine - Genuine Toyota Part

Seems like they replaced the part number 1741037B50 I just linked with part number 1741037B52
Could the reason be that it was failing in some cars like mine?

Or they redesigned it and would replace it with newer part if it fails. That happens also.

It often happens - more noticeable as vehicles age. Updates, like the 2019 won't just have new headlights and taillights - AND FINALLY, we're getting knobs on our radios here - but many seemingly unchanged parts will have been re-designed slightly, some parts strengthened etc.

That's why, when you go to get parts, they ask you for the year - and very likely the VIN. And, sometimes bits you get from a wrecked car may not fit.

I'm curious and would like to know what are the differences between 1741037B50 and 1741037B52
    Does anyone have any info?

You'll be lucky to work it out - unless you go to the parts branch of your dealer and they've got the 2 to look at side-by-side. I'd be surprised if they have either in stock though, let alone both. They could look identical - seen that before.

if you look at the link I posted in a previous post, which would be this one right here

1741037B50 - Pipe assembly, exhaust, front. Engine - Genuine Toyota Part

It mentions that part # 1741037B50 is no longer available
It also mentions that it has been replaced by part # 1741037B52

    Mine failed (1741037B50) at around 78k KM's
It would be interesting to see if others will fail on the long run.

I glanced at the 2 diagrams - I couldn't really see any differences apart from a number? But I didn't labour over it. Did you spot any actual change - or is it just a few design changes?

Couldn't find anything personally, but there has to be a reason for the part # difference, be it related to the failure that I experienced or not. If you browse through each diagram, you will notice that the part # as a whole, has different parts and different part #'s for each of those parts. I haven't browsed to spot any differences between both, but if someone isn't as lazy as I am, please do so lol

Edit In fact there is also two others that I found, which is part #1741037A30 and part # 174037B70
Why so many different part numbers if they fit all the same ?
I'm really not savy in mechanics and engineering so I am hoping someone can enlighten me in all of this. ;-)

Yes, I thought the same. There could be changes non-visible in a diagram, like the hardness of a seal, elasticity of a joint, thickness of a ... whatever. And - TOYOTA wouldn't tell us because it wouldn't be widely known there - just that an engineer signed off on a new part.
