    Hello everyone,
I've been reading and researching a lot of the posts in this forum about coolant leaking into the pistons and or engine.
I just ran into this issue. 2010, 207,000 miles (I do a lot of commuting). It leaked into the #2 piston.
I live in San Diego and I have been looking up rebuilt engines. The lowest cost on finding is around $2,000. Is that a good price? And does anyone know how much it cost to swap the engine out or does anyone know of a good place in the area? AND most importantly, is it worth it in a car with this mileage that gets driven 20K a year.
    Thanks!

My sister has used Auto Repair : Centric Auto Repair - San Marcos, CA | (760) 744-9664 for some major Prius repair (traction battery replace, repair dash display) on her high mileage Gen 2. She reports being happy and recommends them...they might also be able to help with your decision to keep and repair or not.

You might find someone who will install the engine that they supply not one you find. If the one you install turns out to be bad you will have to pay for another engine change. You really don't know if a used engine is good or bad until you drive it for a while. This way they will come up with a bottom line price and you won't get stuck.

New engines reported here have been in the $5-8 k range:eek:.

I’d look on LKQ or some salvage yard locales near San Diego and compare;).

Some up in Nor Cal have gotten the block sourced and replaced for about $3500:).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).
