    Hello,

So after putting things back together after replacing the head gasket I started it in maintenance mode, but after a few seconds, the engine turns itself off. I get the following error code:

I tried pulling out the sensor and giving it a bit of compressed air and putting it back in but same issue. Any ideas?

I'd be looking for a way to test the electrical circuit and connection to the camshaft sensor.

Is there any way any wires got squished when putting componentry back?

There was this wire that goes from the wire harness to a sensor on the coolant hose that I accidentally pinched as I was putting on the engine cover, but I just checked it for continuity or shorts and it seems good.

I also verified that the Camshaft sensor is getting the 5V when the car is on and I checked continuity to the ECM.

I ended up just going to the store and buying another sensor and after replacing it it looks like I'm past that code.

The engine now keeps running, but after around 30 seconds I see some smoke that smells like burning plastic/rubber. Is this normal? What can I look for?

Lots of burn off after a head gasket. I would consider smoke pretty normal however after 30 seconds of running seams early.

Oil spilt on the exhaust manifold cover can cause that smoke.

So I let the engine run in maintenance mode for around another 15 min and no more smoke. Looking at the coolant temperature, it seems to be pretty stable around 200-220F.

Then I tried turning the heat on full blast and after 10 minutes of that the coolant temperature slowly went up to 250F and a red engine light came and stayed for around 2 minutes or so. On the computer I saw code P0012. After that the light went away and temperatures started dropping and the code stopped being Current on the computer. It did spook me so I stopped it there. Should I be concerned about this code? Should I try to get it to happen again? According to TIS it could be temporary due to some debis in the oil that would get filtered out on its own.

There might’ve been an air bubble in the system that caused that light to come on. Obviously 250° is quite hot. Do you have a way to go on a test drive and monitor the temperature with a scanner?

Bad news unfortunately. I drove around for around 10-20 min before I started getting the high engine temperature light. Even after stopping for a solid 5 minutes the high temp light was right back on after under a minute of very slow and cautious driving as I limped back home. Near the end I once again got the Check Engine light with the P0340 code.

205f is the highest I have ever seen when going uphill at speed on a hot day. In fact it takes awhile to get to 195f which is my high normal. Something is very wrong with your cooling system.
