Hello Prius list! Our 2007 Prius has 150K++ miles on it and the gas mileage is starting to drop off. Still over 40, but not what it was. Also, the stock engine that year is a little underpowered and just goes ballistic climbing those long western mountain grades.

Is it possible to replace the current 1500 cc engine with the 1800 from the newer Gen 3 model?

    T^IA your experience.

Probably not. The 1.8 has an electric water pump and a larger transmission mated to it. It's probably a bit big to fit, plus there are probably hosts of other issues getting it to interface with the rest of the car. It's probably possible, just not worth the time and expense. Generally, engine swaps of any kind except equal don't work well on Prii.

Thank you old tech! That's worth knowing. I guess if I want the stronger engine, buy the Gen3 car.

Probably so. There are other advantages of Gen 3 too, like being bigger and more efficient.

and then there's the egr/blown head gasket problems that gen 2 didn't have.

I'd get a gen 3 and keep on top of the aforementioned EGR issue.

The reason the engine is screaming up a hill is because the hybrid battery is shot. Watch the hybrid behavior on the energy monitor on the mfd.

Stage 1 of hybrid battery failure. No longer supply's power. Its a little under powered go kart without a healthy hybrid battery.

Use search forums tab up top and search

    hybrid battery

to see what we are all going through with our battery's.

We have plenty of power most of the time. The screaming uphill came stock, from the first day. By uphill I mean 6% or more grade, 1000 feet or more climb
