Had the 17 in to my local dealer today for the recall. No issues with the wiring harness so they wrapped the tape around the wiring harness and I went on my way. Took about an hour.

So you've got your letter already? TOYOTA Australia hasn't sent mine out yet.

I don't think the dealer needs the letter. All the recalls pop up on their screen when they log-in your vehicle/VIN. They offered to fix my airbag and parking brake when I didn't have a letter. I'm going Monday for a sandwich, coffee, and some tape. (And maybe a new RAV-4)

I received my roll of Tesa 51036 tape, purchased from an eBay seller. This is the style specified in the repair instructions.

It’s a synthetic cloth tape and fairly strong: I couldn’t tear it by hand, across or lengthwise, but it can be cut with sharp scissors. The adhesive feels similar to the one used on ordinary harness and electrical tapes; it’s not thick or gooey like that of duct tape or gaffer’s tape, nor especially sticky, even to itself.

On my car, the wire harness is well clear of the plastic connector cover, so I don’t plan to make any repairs myself. I bought the tape merely to satisfy my professional curiosity, and because I thought it might be useful for other purposes.

What width did you get? I'm thinking of getting some just to satisfy my curiosity as well. It seems the 19-mm width would probably be easiest to work with.

Edit: just bought some. :) Now I need to find 25 m of stuff to wrap. o_O:D

It doesn't seem quite right putting Tesla tape on a Toyota Prius. :D

I'm at the dealer now getting 2 recalls taken care of. You don't need no letter from Toyota, no recall letter, just walk in there and they will do it. I asked him to tell the tech to take a picture of the wiring harness. I don't know if they will. Also getting the parking brake clip put on.

The service advisor just showed me the pictures of the wiring harness. The tech said there was no damage, but he re-wrapped it with what appears to be the stronger black tape.

And they are installing the body side moldings now. The "cheap man's mod" :ROFLMAO:

Was checking out the new Prius parked out front. It has 18" TRD custom wheels with Continental Extreme Contact 215-40-18 tires? Very sharp! Maybe if I was 25 yrs old...

    Wire Harness inspection completed.

    1) He pulled back the OEM rubber wrap? Tape? And inspected the wires. Said there was no damage.

    2) All was good, and he re-wrapped the wires using the black tape.

    23,700.

Here's one more photo the mechanic took. I don't know if this is before he started, or after he finished.

Picture below is for @krmcg, showing the new bodyside moldings. (Can that crazy fool even SEE out of those windows??!:ROFLMAO:)

And my Softex steering wheel finally started getting a little blister. So I just grabbed one of these official, genuine leather, Roger Penske Racing Group "victory" steering wheel covers. Only $17. The quality is actually very good and it does feel like real leather. Very simple to put on, no lacing necessary. Fits very snug. And matches the black & white theme of the interior.
    I went nuts. :ROFLMAO:

The service manager in Cerritos gave me a new steering wheel when mine devloped a blister.

Last week I took my 2016 Prius Model Four in for its 45K checkup. The dealer notified me of the wiring harness recall, inspected the wires and declared them in good condition, then wrapped the harness in their 'special' tape. The recall check was about 20 minutes as measured from the waiting room. :)
