2011 Prius IV -- going on several months absence and will disconnect the 12V battery during the trip. It is a real pain to have to crawl over the seats to hook up the battery again. Question: If I leave the car unlocked in the first place when disconnecting the 12V battery, will I be able to open the rear hatch upon my return since it was not locked?

    No

You can leave the hatch ajar with a towel covering the latch.

Or you'll need to power the car upon your return using the jump start points in the engine compartment, that'll power the car and enable you to open the hatch

if you don't have a 12v source, take the battery out so you can power the jump point with it,

but easier just to use another cars battery with cables, if you can get to the front of the car where it's parked

I had not thought it possible to power the car by jump starting it with the 12V battery disconnected. I wanted to hook a battery tender/float charger up to the jump start points in the engine compartment to keep the battery charged. But, the Toyota dealer service department told me that wouldn't work. So, I didn't think about jump starting it to get the rear hatch open. Hmmm. I'm hesitant to leave the hatch ajar -- I live in the tropics and I'd imagine geckos, ants, roaches, maybe centipedes would find their way inside the car.

I can always back the car into the carport so the front of the car is accessible. Why would I need to have a mechanic or dealer check the trouble codes after re-hooking up the 12v battery?

I always charge via the front jump point, well actually via a quick connect wired in right there. It's hooked up to a CTEK 4.3 charger thus more oft than not.

It was probably said by aliens; they take engine oil from motorcycles, and now erroneous telepathy. Can't wait for what's next.

Well, I thought you did, bisco. On each of your posts, immediately below what you wrote is the text "...have the trouble codes checked after checking the 12v health..." It is text that is only in light gray, not sharp black text. It's not important -- sorry to bring it up. Just curious where it comes from and how it got in your message.

sorry to confuse, those are just little things you can automatically add at the bottom of each post.

if you look at others, you will see similar printing with different information/sayings/quotes or whatever.
if you click on your avatar at the top of the page, you get a dropdown meny. 'signature' is the one that adds to the bottom of your posts.

now you've got me thinking i should remove them, in order not to confuse :)

Thanks for the clarification...now that I know, it won't confuse me again.
When I disconnect the 12v battery, what all will need to be reset when I hook it back up again? radio station presets, for sure, but what else?

sometimes the window switches don't work properly. there is a method for resetting, i think it's hold the switch all the way down, and all the way up.

And then continue to hold up for at least two seconds more.

Trip A & B data will be lost, so you might want to take notes before disconnecting the battery, if you care.

I would not have thought about the power window switches needing resetting. As for the trip A&B, I reset them to zero every time I get gas in the car. So, no loss for me on that account. Thanks for the idea though.

Your log of last 6 months of mpgs goes to zero also. Mine goes back to 2011 when 12v gets the disconnect so I never the date.
