    Dinosaurs stopped making fossils and suppressing mammals (the bug bullies!) about 65 million years ago. A 10-km asteroid failed to miss Earth. Incidentally there are others in this size class still zipping about, and all have well-known orbital parameters . We think :eek:

    New published research:

    Dinosaurs were in decline before the end, according to new study

    indicates that for about 10 million years before that, dinosaurs were already experiencing biodiversity crises. Contributing causes are difficult to pin down.

    Anyway, best dinosaur times seem to have been from 100 to 76 Mya. Campanian and Maastrichtian parks would be the real deal. Jurassic was the prequel.

    That's Crestview. Its 2021 Jan 11 structural report is online, stating cracking and spalling at load-bearing sections.

    Seems reasonable to expect a lot of building inspections there, as they have previously been rare. Possibly worse news is that the fallen structure already reveals apparent construction deficiencies. That construction contractor evaporated long ago, luckily for them.

    Champlain South remains partially standing, with a hurry-up demolition scheduled for Sunday morning? That would be awfully fast to get the charges placed. If demolition makes it more difficult or impossible to 'read' evidence of construction shortcomings, that would be a darn shame. Negligent parties getting off free and what-mot.

    Champlain North (sister bldg) is voluntary evac. Crestview is 5 miles away. As more buildings get named, we're gonna need a map.

    even so, a fish rots from the head down. so many reports are being made public now, there are probably a number of contributing factors, and it will be difficult to place blame on one party.
    most interestingly to me will be the inspector that gave it a pass 2 years ago, now on admin leave.

    I have thought about "fish rots from the head down" because it seems odd. Most of the microbes are in intestines. After death they are no longer restrained by immune system and should chomp from there.

    Yet the quote exists, and presumably for some reason. It may have to do with gills which possess very high surface area. I've seen no actual research on the topic but there may be an IgNobel lurking.
