AWD and the Prime battery pack are mutually exclusive. The battery is too big to also fit the rear motor(s).
No I don’t currently own one. In April I paid a deposit as my dealer had an allotment for one more 22 model and said they should have it by July and it’s still not here. Thinking my 22 won’t happen and I’ll order a 23. From the Canadian specs offer it’ll probably be a xse premium unless the price sky rockets and I’ll be fine with a xse. Also sounds like all Canadian prime models will be awd so that’s another bonus for us, as we have snow almost half the year.
Just to reconfirm and expand on what's already been said... Prius HEV: Offered in FWD(1.8L engine) and AWD(2.0L engine). Japan and the US get both, Canada only gets the AWD, Europe gets neither. Prius Prime PHEV: Only offered in FWD(2.0L engine) because they can't fit both the larger battery and the RWD motors in the needed space. All markets get this one.
Keep in mind that with the increase of EV range that was announced with the unveiling, the 23 Prime should now be easily over 50km all-electric range, which means it will now qualify for the larger federal rebate of $5000 rather than $2500. Keep an eye on this page to be updated: Eligible vehicles So, assuming there WILL be a price increase (I would be surprised if there’s isn’t…), this increased incentive should hopefully offset most or all of the increase.
I ordered a 2022 Prius Prime Technology last March and looks like now I'll be getting a 2023. I bought a used 2018 Prius Prime a month ago as a second vehicle and I'm really enjoying it. It came with chrome accents on the rear, front and mirrors from Modellist. The dealer contacted me a few weeks ago and said I'm # 2 out of 19 on the wait list.
L .... I was hoping it would offset at least ⅓ of giant dealership/sales skumbager price gouging. Forgot about the deflated dollar needing to increase, as well as the more expensive hardware features. .
Aren’t you in the States, Hill? I know the incentive in Canada should increase, not sure about the US, but I thought Toyota plug in vehicles would no longer qualify due to Toyota tax credits expiring and/or manufacturing location with the new rules? I could be mistaken.
Production for the current generation Prius and Prius PHV (Prime) stopped as of Nov. 30. The Prius Prime won’t be available until April and it isn’t because it takes longer to produce. It’s because Toyota is stockpiling parts for it to insure production doesn’t stop when they start. It has a few extra new parts if you know what I mean. As for the Prius HEV (Hybrid), that’ll be January 10th. A slight delay from the December start, again to stockpile parts, particularly for the AWD which also has new parts. They also have to finish testing, EPA, etc.. Getting feedback, approvals, etc. is really tough between Thanksgiving and New Years for the government. I know, I worked with the government for 39 years. iPad ? Pro
Generally you are correct. The old tax credits expired the minute Biden signed the new ones, which means Toyota Plug-ins of any kind no longer qualify for Federal tax credits since they are manufactured in Japan. However, if you can prove you ordered a something Prime or bZ4X, you still qualify under the old tax incentive. Those, however, have been affected by Toyota hitting the 200K vehicle sold. Anything taken delivery of after Sept. 30th gets half of the old credit. There are still State incentives that are still in play, which is why we are seeing a butt load of Primes and bZ4X now showing up here. iPad ? Pro
The dealer here in BC expects that fully loaded model Prime to be priced around at high $40k CAD. If so, I suspect the new Prius Prime may start from high $30k to or low $40k CAD. This wouldn't surprise me given how cars have become more expensive and with bigger battery and more features added, Toyota will surely charge a premium. The BZ4X is priced from $45k and RAV4 Prime at $50k, so $40k sounds about right to me.
Our 2010 Touring was not much over $30k out-the-door; I should try to dig that number up. Believe it was below $31k.
Sounds about right. I was debating between the Touring and the Technology package and it was $6k between the two. The Tech pack was $37k which would place the Touring at $31k.
What? No, the union bonus credit from a past bill never made it to the IRA one that became law. It just has the North America final assembly and battery sourcing from friendly places requirement.
