Error code meaning,how to clear it.

Welcome. I've never used diagnostic mode and I'm not sure what B1585 is, but that looks like it's remembering that it once had that code since it's in the "Memory" column, which is why you can't clear it with the "Code Clear" button. The column under "Current" is empty. Techstream will give you more info.

 

The diagnostic mode on the head unit is only for the audio and visual system and the navigation system; it’s not a general diagnostic or indicating system for the vehicle. As @jerrymildred kindly points out, to diagnose other systems on the car, you’d need to use a Toyota Techstream system or equivalent.

Press and hold the Code CLR button for three seconds. You may also need to press and hold the Memory CLR button (on the previous System Check Mode screen) for three seconds.

The Repair Manual says B1585 is “USB Media Malfunction,” and that it means an incompatible or malfunctioning USB device, or one with a corrupted or incompatible file system, has been connected to the car’s USB port.

 

Thanks. I had googled the code and that was the only plausible explanation I found, but I wasn't going to rent the Repair Manual to confirm it. I'm continually impressed the way you seem to always have the right info handy.

 

I'm kind of that way, during occasional two-day periods when my techinfo subscription is paid up....

• what that code means in other cars that use the same code to mean something different
• what that code means to people who don't know what that code means but are very sure of their guesses
• spiffy videos giving very detailed explanations made up by people who don't know what the code means
• also, occasionally, something accurate about what the code in your car is telling you.

Looking codes up in the repair manual (more info) is a short-cut to that last category of information.
