EV-only goes from 7 battery bars to 2 in 1.5 miles. Normal?

Thank you for letting me know the temperature threshold for the cold start.

Can we do something in Techstream to adjust the engine coolant temp for "cold" start lockout to say... 40 or 50F? Then many of us wouldn't have to worry about counting to 10 seconds and shut down before engine fires up. I had a few warm summer mornings that I just hit the EV button and move my car without engine starting, just never bothered to find out what that temperature is.:p

For me, I just move it and shut it off even when the engine is still running to warm up, no cold start engine knocks next morning, no issues, maybe due to the oil catch can in place. Danlatu has a couple videos showing in cold snowy weather he would do cold engine starts and shut offs without engine knocks. Perhaps that's one of the perks of installing oil catch cans.(y)

This problem was primarily with 2010 and (I think) part of the 2011 model run. It was fixed at the intake manifold well before your 2014 was built, with a TSB available for older units. I've never felt it on my 2012. Though if my fix date memory is wrong, then maybe change of driver behavior has kept it away.

    Two main thoughts.

    1. Cold temps impact battery performance...inhibits the chemical reaction that produces power.

    2. The “range” you get on EV (forced or automatic) modes is directly related to how much torque you’re asking the motor to generate. You’ll go farther with easy acceleration on a level surface compared to hard acceleration (to max of EV threshold) and/or driving uphill.
