  1. To continue, all I have to do to change my cord set is to find the unused L2 and change the male plug to a 220V type.

if you look at the pics of peef's modified evse cable set, the plug is different and will not fit into a 120v outlet. that's why he supplies a 120v adapter plug as an option. you cannot make a mistake, even as a newbie.

There are at least two plugs being discussed in this thread. The 110V (NEMA - 5-15P) that plugs into the standard wall outlet, and the J1772 plug that plugs into the vehicle.

The J1772 connector can provide 110V and 220V and is the standard connector at public charging stations, and usually it is 220V (at public charging stations).

The standard EVSE that comes with the PiP in the USA has a NEMA 5-15P connector and will not plug directly into a 220V outlet.

A 220V - 110V plug adapter can be used if you want to plug the EVSE into a 220V outlet (and only connects 110V).

    To clarify...

-The OEM Toyota cordset that's included with the PIP has a traditional three prong 120V (NEMA - 5-15P) that plugs into the standard wall outlet in the USA. It can not physically fit into a 240v outlet.

-The ChargePoint station I use every day has one 240v attached cordset that has a blue J1772 connector that plugs directly into the PIP without need for your Toyota cordset.

-The same ChargePoint station also has one standard 120v outlet so you can use your OEM Toyota 120v cordset rather than their 240v cordset.

-You can send your 120v OEM Toyota cordset to EVSEupgrade and they will modify it so it can run off 120v or 240v. They permanently attach a three prong round (NEMA L6-20 240V plug) 240v male plug to the end near the relay module- if you want to use the modified cordset on 120v you need to purchase the 120v plug adapter from EVSEupgrade to convert the (NEMA L6-20 240V plug) 240v style male plug back to the standard NEMA - 5-15P 120v male plug. The newly modified Toyota cordset is auto sensing and will now work on 120v or 240v- you just have to have the correct connector plug to physically plug into either 120v or 240v electrical supply.
