Have you tried the charcoal cabin filter? I find that helpful.

Don't want to pay extra for it. The regular one does fine for my needs. Keeping it on RECIRC during trouble times of the year is a big improvement.

Has anybody successfully resolved this problem? The Toyota dealer blew me off and the reaction of other mechanics appears to be that since they've never heard of this it can't be happening.

I don't see there being a "fix." The cabin isn't airtight, and even on RECIRC, some outside air gets in. Pressing the "filter" button will purge the smell from the air faster but that only runs for a few minutes.

Even if you sealed off all intake ports outside the cabin, smell is molecular. It can still find ways to get into the cabin, and you don't wan't an airtight cabin.

shrug, the only way to solve it is to remove the stinkers from the roads. we need the cash for clunkers 2.0. but who will pay for that?

Cash for clunkers was a good idea. It is amazing though how many OLD pickups you still see on the road today. To make matters worse, since the price of fuel has declined, more and more are going back to the guzzlers. Since gas got up to $4 per gallon and higher in places here stateside, quite a few seem to think that $2 @ gallon is cheap. Or at least so it seems.
