I'm one year past the 9 year extended warranty of the combination meter of my prius and have unfortunately been denied a Goodwill warranty to repair this part that has been faulty since 2012 (which was the same time they initiated the extended the warranty in the fall of 2012.) The warranty enhancement covers this failure for a period of the longer of 9 years from date of first use (DOFU) (no mileage limit) or before September 30, 2013 (which ever is longer for the condition described).
Technically I was in the shop to address this concern before 2013, but two of the dealerships I went to were unaware of such an issue and did not fix it. I only recently discovered through my own research that 3% of Prius owners experience this same problem. Has anyone else experienced difficulty in obtaining the extended warranty coverage for their Prius?

I could not attach the document but here is a link to the warranty for others having issues with their dash lights going out: file:///C:/Users/ksieb/Downloads/114901842-Prius-Combination-Meter-Warranty-Extension.pdf

I am being denied warranty coverage for mine, which quit working in the middle of driving on the interstate last night. I am fighting it by filing a complant with the NHTSA. To stop covering a known safety defect is wrong, in my opinion..

As a safety issue, I guess you can say you can't shut the car down while it's parked in your attached garage.

this is only suppose to occur in a cold climate. Is it cold where you're at now?

the problem here is there is a known defect and a specific time frame for the defect to occur. This is not an (if) it'll occur defect, it's a (when) it'll occur defect. What should've happen is a recall for this item but Toyota weaseled out of this by offering a 9 year warranty and then leaving it up to the owners afterwards.

know what? they weaseled themselves into giving a 9 year warranty? because that's what we have here....and not a full blown recall

What is not a safety item in a car ?

"The worn plastic distracts me from driving."
"When my engine overheats my loses control."

because it's happening slowly, one by one as the mileage increases

true, but we have no idea how many or what percentage. or even that they will all die eventually. could just be a bad batch.

okay, can't argue with that. that's the m.o. for all car companies, i think 9 years may be unprecedented.

Sure you can. The inverter story is similar.

i can't argue that it's a big batch, because i don't know how big. and even if i did, it's a subjective judgement.
i've never really understood the reasoning, where if a lot of people are harmed, they should receive something that wouldn't be given if only a few are harmed. it feels more like political correctness than anything else.

would it be easier to quantify the numbers not represented?

and this was the 'dealer doesn't have to see it, if you say it happened, they have to replace it'?

9 years, meaning the 2006's are starting to go out of warranty?
