"I will add something I have said elsewhere: If Bush was a Christian, no child would ever go to bed hungry in this wealthiest of all nations. Period. Sadly, he is not. Nor are any of his cronies. Nor are any of the people who voted for him."

A grotesque distortion, dripping with hate, wrapped in a mantle of concern for children. It needs to be refuted.

Food is abundant and inexpensive in the USA. Today's nutritional problem is childhood obesity, particularly in children in low-income families.

Where there is hunger in this country there is usually parental failure; an
unwillingness to make child-rearing a priority, and, very often, an absent father. In my area of the country, methamphetamine addiction is probably the single largest contributor to child neglect. It's ironic that in largely impoverished regions like India and China most parents are somehow able to feed their children, while some in wealthy nations can't be bothered. It's Bush's fault*, of course. For the truly desperate who can't make it in our society, the sick, the disabled, the mentally ill, there is ample government assistance for food, along with aid from numerous religious groups.

The nonsense that all the people who voted for Bush are not Christians is almost too silly to require rebuttal. Maybe you were thinking of Jesus's "hard saying" advising the man who would follow him to sell everything he owned and give the money to the poor. If adherence to that standard is the test of Christianity, then almost none of us are Christians, yet many Christian groups and individuals continue to work to feed and clothe the poor worldwide. The church I attend is very active in a local homeless shelter and a food pantry. Many of us donate money, food and time to these efforts. Most of us voted for Bush. Are we not Christians? We're trying to make a difference.

Is my church-going neighbor who voted for Kerry a Christian? What if he voted for Nader or the Socialist Workers Party candidate? Does that pass your test?

Inherent in your little rant is the view that all problems are to be solved by government, rather than individual or non-governmental group action. There is no place for personal responsibility in that philosophy, so government is to blame when children are neglected.

I give a bit to help the truly afflicted, and, no matter what, I feed one very hungry child every day - my own.

*actually, the child hunger situation has improved slightly during Bush's watch. From the USDA's Household Food Security in the United States, 2003 report:

Households with Children Food Insecurity with Hunger among Children
Year .... Percent of all Households in Study
    1998 .... 0.9
    1999 .... 0.6
    2000 .... 0.7
    2001 .... 0.6
    2002 .... 0.7
    2003 .... 0.5

makestickers.com will put any image onto a bumper sticker. Their bumper stickers use the glue that is fairly easy to remove.

Also, remember, the back hatch of the Prius is aluminum. Nothing magnetic will stick.
