So the German Priuses don't have speed limiter? He's doing over 120mph.

I've had mine up to 102 twice. I have noticed a few times under full acceleration, a shift--left to right then back(or vice versa) about 70 to 90. Seems like a torque or weight shift. Has any body else noticed that?

They can give you a ticket for that too, you know. And if the cop is feeling a little ornery, he might give you both tickets; not knowing your speed (especially if you freely admit that you know your speedometer was broken, and even more so if you're going unreasonably fast) is no excuse. And going REALLY fast (aka 'reckless driving', in some states just 20 mph over) can get you a lot more than a speeding ticket - jail time, a huge fine, a lost license...

    Just so ya know. ;)

Please notice that OP is from Germany and there is no general speed limit on highways. My personal experience with top speed is exactly the same - 194 kmh.

Have you crosschecked the 194 shown on dashboard with GPS speed? I would like to know the difference between dashboard speed and real (GPS) speed above 130 km/h.

I find about a 7% diff at "normal speeds"
Probably somewhere in between close to the GPS .

My in-dash GPS shown 185kmh. The speed limiter is set to 180 with some +difference for safe usage. I didn't find any detail notice for top speed setup in PIII documentation.

That's funny Corwyn. I think that was my highest speed so far as well. I'm getting more bold now that I've driven my Prius over 700 miles now.

I got it up to 100 mph. I picked up my car in MD and drove home to Miami. Averaged about 80mph and got 42 mpg. It actually stabilized a bit at very high speed. I think the aero wings etc. come into play more. The car is lighter than I was used to and the wind and trucks effected it more than some cars but I love the car and I don't drive it to get the highest mileage. I average about 43 mpg all around over the first 5000 miles. That is still better than twice what I got in my '99 Honda EX V-6.

Just last weekend, had my 2013 Prius Five up to 112 and still climbing, on the level before my wife served notice to quit. (Central Nevada) Car was very stable, and there was no "pucker factor" at all. I believe it probably would have topped out @ around 120. Cruises through long barren stretches @80-85 routinely without even realizing it. (oops) my bad. Worst accumulated mileage it ever got with my foot in it was 43 avg. My usual average mileage varies from 48 to 51 through regular driving.
FYI - I seem to get better overall mileage with Eco mode off, than when on.

It would have topped out at 112 which is about 115 on the speedometer. That's where the electronic limit is, when it reaches that speed it just quits accelerating kind of like it ran into a pillow. If it were not limited I have no doubt it would reach 120 plus. Great aerodynamics makes up for the lack of horsepower.

I bumped 116 the first night I drove it. I come from BMWs where 130- is achieve able getting onto the freeway. The Prius was just fine @ 116 for 5 miles.
