not at all, but if one doesn't have substance abuse problems, it can sometimes be difficult to empathize with others.:)

It hasn't yet been 6 months since the last posting. :D
I believe there are some good ideas and issues mentioned in this thread. Do not get distracted by the idle banter.

What does this have to do with ANYTHING ???
Are you saying that you DO have a substance abuse problem ?
    That might explain a lot.

Here is a perfect example of why old threads need to be locked.

No Way to Change MPH to KPH on New 2016 Model Three | Page 7 | PriusChat

Note this part. "I dont know if it is true." If they had read the thread, they would see many experiences, an official word from Toyota in post 22 and a second hand reply from Toyota in post 26, among others.

Resurrecting the old thread provided no benefit. The same information needed to be rehashed ...again!

EDIT: It is even worse. They now say their question was off-topic. It was about changing navigation unite, not speedometer units.

I agree that's annoying. Adding on to an old thread, when you have taken the trouble to read it and make sure your addition is contributing, is a fine thing to do and makes old threads better and better.

Adding on to an old thread, when you have barely skimmed the subject line and taken in nothing from the thread (or even saying "hey, exact same problem!" and then describing a different problem), is a rotten thing to do and makes old threads worse and worse.

I guess it comes down to which situation happens more often, and what solutions are reasonably efficient for the mods.

It would be nice to have a category of 'report' that just says a particular post had no business being added to a particular old thread, with the result that the post is completely removed, or split off to start a new thread. That keeps the old thread as useful as it can be.

It isn't helpful to new readers, if an old thread got interesting, grew years of relevant worthwhile information, then got spoiled at the bottom by some noncontributing post, followed by several more posts focusing on the problem of the noncontributing post instead of the original topic. Better for that post to just go away.

But then, it also isn't helpful to new readers if there aren't any threads that grow years of relevant worthwhile information, because it's too much hassle to add to them, so the information gets spread all over three dozen different threads that have to be searched out and sifted together. Some of those multiple threads are going to have the same kind of didn't-bother-to-read-before-posting contributions too; they'll just be more spread out.

And it's probably even harder to talk to the offending posters about, too: instead of saying "couldn't you have at least read this full thread you were thinking of adding to, before clicking Reply?", it would have to be "couldn't you have spent more time piecing together the information you're missing here from several other threads, before clicking Reply?" That's more work and a harder thing to ask....

It's not that different if you either need to rehash the answers, whether in the same thread or another one.
They do not even read the thread enough to know if their issue us on-topic. It is too much these days to expect them to read enough to find an answer there too. :(

Here's what I think. This forum is called Prius Chat. It should be available for current chat including spurious and challenging errors in technique, grammar and I dare say fact!

We are not all moderators and should learn to live with what we have; the good, the bad and the other things. To request Moderators make changes is fair enough, but we shouldn't get mad if things don't happen right away... If at all!

    I've asked:

    1. If every page when viewing on a phone could have a link to "new posts".
    2. Especially for phone use, with fat finger: if the cluster of links around the linked thread, ie: user bio and forum in which the thread is, could be neutered. I never want to use those links, but they're easy to hit, so close.
    3. Again for phone, if the pop-up for file load could be fixed: the button does not work, the text above it does the work the button should. Confusing.
    4. On a pc, the pop-up for "new alerts" does not work, never has. Does work on phone.

None of these have been addressed. @Danny is not even a valid user name now. But hey, the site works, and hasn't crashed in quite some time now (uh-oh, broke the spell).

The other day I posted a response to a (single post) 2008 thread by Chapman. He's definitely still here, and I'm hoping he'll notice it and respond. Why lock older threads like that? I'd definitely rather put up with a few "whoops", than lock-down threads due to time elapsed.

32 bit here. Didn't work with win 7 and internet Explorer, nor more recently with win 10 and Firefox. The icon at the top DOES work, so no big deal.
