Plug-in sales growth
First be careful as percentages can be misleading: AD #2028 – BMW Hurting for SUVs, Tesla Cleared in Autopilot Investigation, 2017 Auto Industry Outlook – Autoline Daily
EV’S, PLUG-INS GROW THE FASTEST
Amazingly, despite cheap gasoline prices all last year, the hottest segment in the U.S. market was for electric cars and plug-ins. That segment grew 30% and over 150,000 were sold, with 70,000 being plug-ins and 80,000 electric. Plug-in sales grew the most, largely thanks to some new entrants and by strong growth from the Chevy Volt, the Ford Fusion Energi and BMW X5e. Most EVs are only sold in a limited number of states. They’re not available nationwide. So there’s a lot of upside potential. But before you get too excited they still represent less than 0.8% of the total market.
The problem with percentages and small quantities is it can give the impression of greater growth...bwilson4web Jan 23, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,444 Likes: 2 Replies: 18 -

EV road tax fees
Source: Yearly “EV fees” to replace lost gas tax revenue are less reasonable than they seem; Indiana the latest to scapegoat EVs | Electrek
Indiana recently became the latest state to suggest the idea of an “EV tax.” As we’ve covered before, several states have implemented additional yearly fees for electric vehicles. Even California floated the idea at one point.
At first glance, it seems almost reasonable – revenue from gas taxes is falling because cars across the board are using less (or no) gas; infrastructure spending is sorely needed but is only getting more costly thus squeezing budgets even more; more efficient cars,...bwilson4web Jan 19, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,930 Likes: 1 Replies: 46 -

Toyota Prius Prime buyers misled by dealers; more education needed
It seems even some Toyota dealerships are unaware that the Prius Prime is being sold nationwide. It's probably understandable due to the Prius Prime's predecessor, the Plug-in Prius, only normally being available in certain states.
And some dealers probably assumed the Prime was going to be the same thing, despite Toyota having said repeatedly that it'll be available in all 50 states.

PG&E $500 EV Rebate
For those here in California who get their residential electricity from PG&E, PG&E is offering their customers with EVs a $500 Clean Fuel Rebate. This appears to include plug-in hybrids like the Prime and Plug-in Prius. Free money, not bad:
Clean Fuel Rebate for electric vehicles
I called PG&E (1-877-704-8723) and spoke to someone with their Clean Fuel Rebate program. They say there is no limit per household and all plug-in EVs each qualify for $500. That's $1000 I wasn't expecting between our Plug-in Prius and Leaf. -
Solar road
There are significant engineering challenges: World's first solar panel road opens in Normandy village | Environment | The Guardian
France has opened what it claims to be the world’s first solar panel road, in a Normandy village.
A 1km (0.6-mile) route in the small village of Tourouvre-au-Perche covered with 2,800 sq m of electricity-generating panels, was inaugurated on Thursday by the ecology minister, Ségolène Royal.
There are no guarantees and the engineering challenges are not trivial. It could very well be the next 'cold fusion.' Still, the opportunity to multitask roads and sidewalks as solar collectors . . . very interesting:

2018 Camry hybrid to offer two different battery packs
Seems they're following a similar suit for the Camry hybrid as they did with the Gen 4 Prius with offering two different packs. They didn't say what the mpg was yet, but I'm guessing it'll be in the mid to high 40's.
