Europe getting a network of ultra-fast, high-powered EV chargers
Europe is getting a network of ‘ultra-fast, high-powered’ EV chargers - The Verge
"BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford, and Volkswagen have entered into a partnership to create a network of high-speed charging stations for electric vehicles across Europe. The new chargers will be capable of doling out up to 350 kW of power — which would make them almost three times as powerful as Tesla’s Supercharging stations." -
MB throws 11Bil of Skin into Electrics
Daimler announces $11 billion investment in electric vehicles | Electrek
Going whole-hog, they admit that they made a mistake in not being a front-runner.
Just a thought, but at least MB's admitting they've fallen behind with at least one electric on the road already, what does that say for manufacturers that ain't got squat ... much less, still in denial that they're behind.

Toyota works to develop advanced electric-car battery
More to compete with Tesla really. I mean Toyota are committed to FCEV over BEV - if only hydrogen didn't cost more to fill up than petrol does on the Prius..

USGS 20 Billion Barrels of Oil
Source: USGS Estimates 20 Billion Barrels of Oil in Texas’ Wolfcamp Shale Formation
The Wolfcamp shale in the Midland Basin portion of Texas’ Permian Basin province contains an estimated mean of 20 billion barrels of oil, 16 trillion cubic feet of associated natural gas, and 1.6 billion barrels of natural gas liquids, according to an assessment by the U.S. Geological Survey. This estimate is for continuous (unconventional) oil, and consists of undiscovered, technically recoverable resources.
The estimate of continuous oil in the Midland Basin Wolfcamp shale assessment is nearly three times larger than...bwilson4web Nov 26, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,718 Likes: 3 Replies: 17 -
Nice KIA Optima PHEV review
Ok,
I am skeptical of non-EPA reports of cars whose existence is documented by press releases and rewrites by automotive press. There are a few exceptions but for the most part, I am skeptical. However, I have grown fond of Robert Llewellyn's efforts over the years and I found something in his latest review:
Apparently Kia is feeding the electric motor power through the transmission. Today's EVs are often single gear-ratio transmissions. At low speed, the torque makes gears redundant but at higher speeds, the back EMF limits the power. If you want high speed, the motor needs to be geared for slow rpm and that is what Kia has done. But how fast do you need to go?
Recently there is a report that the Hyundai Ioniq has set a speed record for hybrids. Piece of cake if you run the motor through a transmission to gear it down.

Barstow Superchargers Vandalized Thanksgiving Weekend
CHAdeMO stations have been geting hit on occasion - but that just typically takes out 1 or 2. Now?
$hĭt's gettin' real;
Barstow, CA Tesla Supercharger Vandalized Before Thanksgiving Weekend (Update)
iirc, there are at least 8 chargers out there. Article states 'experts' had to do this - not just barstow meth heads, due to the fact your ordinary shmow would likely fry their self. Some suspect the neocons. Truth is, the cache of breakers were easily worth somewhere in the 5 figures - even used. Like catalytic converters, the products will probably have to be etched/stenciled from now on - so if someone tries to fence them, BOOM you got your bad guy.

Kia Niro versus Prius
Let me know what you guys think!
I think this is a real Prius competitor. I checked out the Niro at my local mall and at the auto show, I love the interior, options, and a crossover! The exterior doesn't look too bad, but it their first year gen, so it will improve in the future. It is reasonable price from 25k-30k, but nothing official yet. The only bad is that the battery is only 7-8 years warranty, but again not official yet..
If they make a plug-in, I could consider trading my PiPhorent135 Nov 22, 2016 Hyundai/Kia/Genesis Hybrids and EVs Read More Views: 9,728 Likes: 0 Replies: 16 -

BEV's cheaper and better at cutting emissions than FCV's
Thoughts on this? This may also be why Toyota is now reluctantly looking at making a long ranged BEV (battery electric vehicle) as well, since their Mirai fuel cell vehicle is selling/leasing at a much slower rate than they were anticipating.
But I'm sure those nearly 400k $1k reservations for a Tesla Model 3 suddenly made them turn their heads too. Can't claim "nobody wants us to build plug-in electric cars" anymore.
