VW Defends ICE For Jobs
Source: Electronic vehicles and auto manufacturing jobs - Business Insider
He pointed out that electric motors and drive trains consist of fewer components and that their production requires fewer workers than the production of vehicles with combustion engines.
There are dumb reasons and then ones that remind us that 'those who the Gods would destroy, they first make insane.'
Yes, he is right because it helps to explain how Tesla was able to build cars and become a success. Tesla does not have to build out the huge infrastructure needed for an engine.
Note, I don't have EV envy because over the Labor Day weekend, my wife, her dogs, and I drove 1,400 miles round trip between Huntsville, AL and Stillwater, OK. There is no practical, cross-country EV charging infrastructure in between.

Source: 1 Dead in Colonial Gasoline Pipeline Explosion in Alabama - NBC News
One person was killed and five others were injured in explosion along the Colonial Pipeline in rural Alabama Monday, not far where it burst last month, authorities said.
Colonial pipeline said in a written statement Monday night that a contract crew working along a gasoline pipeline in Shelby County "experienced an incident when the trackhoe it was using hit the line."
"Gasoline was ignited and caused a fire, which continues to burn," the statement said.
. . .
The explosion shortly after 3 p.m. sent flames soaring over the forest about a mile west of where the pipeline burst in September, Gov. Robert Bentley said in a statement. That rupture led to gasoline shortages across the South.

Toyota Strongly Hints At Plans To Develop All Electric Vehicles
Strongest sounding language to date:
Warming to lithium-ion, Toyota charges up its battery options| Reuters
"It's a tall order to develop a lithium-ion car battery which can perform reliably and safely for 10 years, or over hundreds of thousands of kilometers," said Koji Toyoshima, the chief engineer for the Prius.
"We have double braced and triple braced our battery pack to make sure they're fail-safe ... It's all about safety, safety, safety," he told Reuters.
...
Falling battery prices have enabled Toyota to develop its more compact, efficient battery, while also adding more sophisticated controls into its battery pack, Toyoshima said. Toyota declined to say more on its costs.
...
"Developing lithium-ion batteries for both hybrids and plug-ins will enable us to also produce all-electric cars in the future," said Toyoshima said. "It makes sense to have a range... -

EPA proposes major updates to RFS regulations
Thought some would like to peruse this.
EPA proposes major updates to RFS regulations | Biomassmagazine.com
"On Oct. 3, the U.S. EPA released its proposed Renewable Enhancement and Growth Support rule, which aims to enhance the renewable fuel standard (RFS) program and related fuel regulations to support the growth of ethanol and other renewable fuels.
The proposal includes an updated regulatory structure to allow biofuels producers to partially process feedstock at one facility and convert the resulting material into fuels at another using existing pathways. It also updates fuel regulations to allow expanded availability of high-ethanol fuel blends for use in flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) and includes new feedstock approvals for cellulosic biofuels produced from short-rotation poplar and willow, cellulosic diesel produced from compressing of cellulosic feedstocks and...Trollbait Oct 27, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,151 Likes: 0 Replies: 0 -

Smaller engines at risk due to real world test results?
Exclusive: Carmakers forced back to bigger engines in new emissions era| Reuters
"Tougher European car emissions tests being introduced in the wake of the Volkswagen (
VOWG_p.DE) scandal are about to bring surprising consequences: bigger engines.
Carmakers that have spent a decade shrinking engine capacities to meet emissions goals are now being forced into a costly U-turn, industry sources said, as more realistic on-the-road testing exposes deep flaws in their smallest motors."

VW 'annoyed' it won't get order for electric vans it didn't make
Thoughts? Think the automakers are missing an opportunity by not making electric vans for small business owners and post offices? Wouldn't it work out great because they'd be charging at a centralized location at the end of every day, and they usually have short, well known routes as well?

Pump prices rising in UK
The price of petrol/gas in UK is expected to rise by £0.05 per litre by the end of October. Someone will do the calculations to see wha that is in $/gallon You guys outside UK should worry too much, as it's largely due to GBP exchange rate falling.

Deutsche Post van
Source: Deutsche Post van signals new entrant threat to auto industry| Reuters
With e-commerce orders rising, Deutsche Post knew increasing inner city delivery trips would mean more pollution unless it switched to zero-emission vehicles. "We scanned the market. There was no electric van available so we decided to build our own," Deutsche Post board member Juergen Gerdes told Reuters.
Electric vehicles - which are far simpler in design than combustion engined cars - require only a tenth of the staff during assembly, dramatically lowering production costs.
"We designed it as a tool. So the fit and finish does not need to be as good as in a passenger car," Neidlinger said.
The vans are designed to last 16 years, stay in use for six days a week and for 10 hours at a time. They need some particularly robust components, such as doors that can be opened and closed up to...bwilson4web Oct 7, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,351 Likes: 1 Replies: 2
