VW 'annoyed' it won't get order for electric vans it didn't make
Thoughts? Think the automakers are missing an opportunity by not making electric vans for small business owners and post offices? Wouldn't it work out great because they'd be charging at a centralized location at the end of every day, and they usually have short, well known routes as well?

Toyota's next EV is...the Aygo?
New Toyota Aygo to become standalone electric car? | Auto Express
(...) Toyota’s European President & CEO Johan van Zyl has suggested that while his company is targeting hybrid vehicles in every area of the market where it is present, the smallest class of car - the A-segment where the Aygo competes - could require a different solution.

Pump prices rising in UK
The price of petrol/gas in UK is expected to rise by £0.05 per litre by the end of October. Someone will do the calculations to see wha that is in $/gallon You guys outside UK should worry too much, as it's largely due to GBP exchange rate falling.

Deutsche Post van
Source: Deutsche Post van signals new entrant threat to auto industry| Reuters
With e-commerce orders rising, Deutsche Post knew increasing inner city delivery trips would mean more pollution unless it switched to zero-emission vehicles. "We scanned the market. There was no electric van available so we decided to build our own," Deutsche Post board member Juergen Gerdes told Reuters.
Electric vehicles - which are far simpler in design than combustion engined cars - require only a tenth of the staff during assembly, dramatically lowering production costs.
"We designed it as a tool. So the fit and finish does not need to be as good as in a passenger car," Neidlinger said.
The vans are designed to last 16 years, stay in use for six days a week and for 10 hours at a time. They need some particularly robust components, such as doors that can be opened and closed up to...bwilson4web Oct 7, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,561 Likes: 1 Replies: 2 -

Cayenne Poss. Hydrogen Sulfide from wrong 12v Battery
I'll put this here (mods: OK to move) as it potentially pertains to Gen2-Gen3 Prii.
Hydrogen sulfide inhalation killed mother, toddler found on Florida's Turnpike in June
Apparently an inside-the-car 12v battery in a Porsche Cayenne SUV was replaced with non-OEM wrong type and possibly poisoned the passengers with H2S. Only known case of this ever happening. I have never smelled copious H2S coming from a car battery, so I wonder what happened?
Authorities are still trying to confirm. Hard to imagine how so much H2S could form but there is the H2 gas formed and sulfuric acid is there of course. I guess we have to wait and see. H2S is not too bad as a trace smelly gas (rotten eggs smell) so they would need to get a pretty big snootful of it somehow. Maybe something else going on here. Very sad of course.

VW and Plug-ins (?)
Sometimes to read an article and wonder Wth? I haven't found independent sources so here it is: PHEVs an illogical end point, says Volkswagen
Plug-in hybrid technology may seem a perfect solution for those with range anxiety, but it’s a concept with a limited shelf life, according to aspiring electric vehicle leader Volkswagen.
The German car-maker, which wants to be the world’s top EV brand by 2025 by selling more than a million units annually, says that as battery technology improves and charging infrastructure grows to support demand, PHEVs will be phased out.
It may seem self-evident, but it’s confirmation that combining a combustion source with an electric motor/battery drive unit is a technology bridge, rather than an end point – at least according to the world’s number-two car brand.

Prius Prime Embargo
Source: AD #1953 – VW’s EV Plans Could be Threatened, Jeep Unveils the All-New Compass, Fighting Hackers is Big Business – Autoline Daily
Toyota unwrapped a handful of vehicles last week including a number of refreshed models and one significant hybrid. But it still has that information under embargo. Even so, here’s a peek at the Prius Prime, a plug-in version of the Prius. It kind of reminds us of the Chevy Volt.
Sounds like they've got some in North America which makes sense:
- Light shows at a popular vacation spot.
- "Press Day" at a popular, retired, Marine air base.
- Selected 'loans' to journalists.

Plug-In Registrations By State
Jeff Cobb of HybridCars.com has been putting this interesting graphic in several of his recent articles. As many of you know, it is hard to come by state-by-state data about sales of hybrids and plug-ins. So here we have a little insight courtesy the US Department of Energy.
My state VA, with among the least green car friendly policies, still shows pretty decent Plug_in sales. We still have some free HOV policies that long-time ("grandfathered") green car owners can qualify for, so that is one explanation. I've also seen several plug-ins with VA plates and CA HOV stickers (we got a lot of transplants re: military and defense).
Look at Georgia with the (defunct) $5000 credit for Nissan Leafs made in Tennessee.
I think I see Bob W, one of two Plug-in owners in his state...yes that's him!
What's the explanation for your state? Tell us below.

Prius hybrid tailpipe emissions
Source: Green Car Congress: Rome study finds Prius hybrids have zero tailpipe emissions for 74.2% of commuting journey time
A study from the University of Rome commissioned by Toyota Motor Italy has found that the new, fourth-generation Prius hybrid operates with zero emissions for most of the time and distance covered on a typical city commute in Rome.
Data gathered from more than 2,200 km (1,367 miles) of driving on a typical Rome commuting journey revealed that the test Prius cars spent an average 73.2% of the journey time (62.5% of the journey distance) producing no tailpipe emissions. These figures included periods when the car was stationary, with the engine automatically switched off.

The study project used a team of 20 drivers, evenly divided between men and women in age groups up to and over 35. There was an equal balance between those who...bwilson4web Sep 19, 2016 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,547 Likes: 3 Replies: 3
