Colorado "electric vehicle" $50 registration fee
I just registered my third Prius I have owned. I never really looked at the registration fees until this last one...
Wth? The state's website indicates that the $50 fee applies to "plug in electric vehicles". My 2006 Prius is far from a plug in electric vehicle. The DMV said their system charges based on the VIN number... this makes no sense to me. Has anyone else dug into this?

I tried to find the lawyer jargon verbiage in CRS 42-3-304 and could not locate it... Only found references to the $50 fee going towards special license plates for electric vehicles (which are supposed to be provided when you pay the fee) and then some kind of BS sticker for the window. I received NEITHER of these.
Colorado is basically forcing people to advertise that they have an electric vehicle. That is all I could gather.

WASHINGTON —
U.S. President Joe Biden is calling Wednesday for Congress to suspend the nation’s federal gas tax to help consumers cope with a rise in prices linked in part to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Ahead of Biden’s planned remarks about gas prices, the White House said in a statement the president is supporting suspending the tax of 18.4 cents per gallon until the end of September.
“President Biden understands that a gas tax holiday alone will not, on its own, relieve the run up in costs that we’ve seen,” the White House said. “But the President believes that at this unique moment when the war in Ukraine is imposing costs on American families, Congress should do what it can to provide working families breathing room.”

Toyota is promoting a closed loop system with their new TBMNC (Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina) manufacturing plant so even the anode and cathode materials are recoverable from spend battery cells.
Smart considering most of the materials are expensive and some are even ethically challenging. I’d wager that most new batteries will be manufactured with increasing amounts of recycled materials. Redwood Materials recycles about 6 GWh of spent battery cells annually.

So $38K for 226 mile range top of the line Leaf
$51k for BZ4x. I know one is a mid sized SUB and one is a hatchback…. So depending on creature comforts and cargo area….oh and the leaf is Not off road. BZ4x is….. $12k price difference will go a long way….. towards a model Y 7 passenger for the wife…. what do you all think? -
