What Drives Us Podcast - #349 Whose Data is it, Anyway?
In this week’s show: 1) The current NTSB requirements for black box data is woefully short of all the data required to determine the actual situation of a modern-day crash. Manufacturers are not required to hand over additional data. Should owners be able to pull the data themselves to turn over to the police? Should […]

New B-SUV to be built along side Yaris
Toyota announces new compact SUV for its European line-up
Toyota will announce a new small SUV to be built alongside the Yaris line in France. It will be built on the GA-B platform so it will be small. You can only see an outline but it appears to be similar to the UX. Probably a hybrid version will be included although the article has no details.

Fuel pump recall?
Source: Toyota recalls nearly 700K vehicles to fix faulty fuel pumps - ABC News
Toyota is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles in the U.S. because the fuel pumps can fail and cause engines to stall. That can increase the risk of a crash.
The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460, and RX 350 models. Also included are certain 2018 and 2019 Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra models. Some 2019 models also are affected including the Avalon and Corolla.
Toyota is still developing repairs. Owners will be notified by mail in mid-March.
Perhaps some of the Prius 'gear heads' should experiment to find out if our hybrids might have a similar problem AND what any error conditions/symptoms might result.

Rumourmill: Venza and Sienna to Come in Hybrid Form Only
The Venza is coming back to compete with the Ford Edge, Chevy Blazer and Honda Passport.
The next gen Sienna will come in hybrid form only. My suspicion is that it’ll use the new HiHy’s system - 2.5L 4-cylinder (M4A-FXE) with 240hp. I’m guessing it’ll get less than the HiHy given it’s slightly heavier weight.
I’m also going out on a limb and say that 302hp RAV4 Prime’s system will make it to the Sienna (but not HiHy since it has a V6 option) with 35 miles of range.Tideland Prius Jan 9, 2020 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 4,281 Likes: 1 Replies: 48 -

H2Go Power Stores Hydrogen as a Solid?
Interesting tidbit from the BBC. Story is long on happy happy optimism and short on technical information. Story focuses on drones, not cars, but other uses are obvious. Presented here in case they really do have anything:
H2Go Power seeks to power drones with a 'happy gas' - BBC News
"In a lab deep in the basement of Imperial College in London, a young team has built what it believes is the future of air travel. H2Go Power is seeking a patent to store the explosive gas cheaply and safely.
Until now, storing hydrogen required ultra-strong and large tanks which could withstand pressures of up to 10,000 pound-force per square inch (psi). That is hundreds of times greater than what you would find in a car tyre. But, while studying for her PhD in Cambridge, Dr Enass Abo-Hamed came up with a revolutionary structure which could store hydrogen as a stable solid without compression."
"Hydrogen generates three times as... -
