Lexus Announces 10 year/1,000,000km Battery Warranty on UX300e

Lexus intends to introduce its first all-electric model in Europe, the UX 300e by the end of 2020 (initially only in select markets), following the recent launch in China.

The first BEV comes after 15 years of engagement in conventional hybrids and the experience of over 1.7 million produced since 2005.

Today, the Japanese brand has announced an unprecedented battery warranty for the UX 300e, which should give buyers peace of mind: 10-year (or 1,000,000 km / 621,500 miles) including capacity degradation below 70%.

Hyundai prices Sonata Hybrid just over CAD$40,000

Hyundai’s new Sonata Hybrid will start at $40,099, and will be made available in just a single trim with features like an innovative solar-panel roof.

That puts it above even the top-level $38,599 Ultimate trim Sonata, though it does have many of that car’s features, like a 10.25-inch widescreen display with navigation; 12-speaker Bose premium audio; and a 12.3-inch fully digital LCD cluster and head-up display.

For that money, the powertrain you’ll get is a 2.0L Smartstream four-cylinder mated to a 38-kW electric motor, good for a combined 192 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

A 1.62-kWh battery can be topped up by the aforementioned solar cells — Hyundai says how sunny it is where you live, six hours of rays a day on that panel can net you up to 1,300 free kilometres of charge (though in February, a U.S. release figured it closer to 1,125 km). Combined fuel economy is rated at 5.0 L/100 km.

Its Best Days Behind It, Toyota Prius Prepares to Mark an Anniversary

It’s the Toyota Prius’ party and it can cry if it wants to. Two decades after its North American debut, the Prius is reportedly set to mark the occasion with a special edition. Whether or not the new reigning champ of the hybrid scene, the Prius’s own RAV4 Hybrid stablemate, is invited to the bash remains unknown.

Yes, the Prius has come a long way since its 2001 introduction, but time can either solidify a front-runner’s position or see it fall behind the pack, overtaken by changing trends. The Prius falls into the latter category.

As reported by Cars Direct, a 2021 order guide reveals the presence of a Prius 20th Anniversary Edition for the coming model year. The first such edition rolled out back in 2017 to mark the model’s debut in Japan.

Toyota Prius 20th Anniversary Edition coming for 2021

The Prius hit the market in Japan in December 1997, arriving in the U.S. in 2001, and we now know how this story ends just keeps going. CarsDirect says an early order guide reveals Toyota plans to celebrate the two-decade milestone here with a special 20th Anniversary Edition Prius coming for the 2021 model year. There were hardly any details in the guide, so all CarsDirect knows is that the model will sit at the top of the standard Prius lineup, above the limited, offer either Supersonic Red or Wind Chill Pearl exterior paint, and only black Softex fabric inside. That Wind Chill hue is said to replace Blizzard Pearl in the palette.

Polestar 2 price lowered to help buyers claim incentives

Volvo-owned Polestar has made the Polestar 2 a little bit cheaper to ensure buyers in key markets are eligible to claim state and federal incentives. The electric sedan now starts slightly under the $60,000 threshold.

New York and California (America's two biggest electric car markets) recently tweaked their respective incentive program to steer buyers towards more affordable models. In the Empire State, motorists who spend over $60,000 on an EV are only eligible to claim a $500 incentive. That number falls to zero in the Golden State. These policies created a problem for Polestar because the Launch Edition version of the 2 was originally priced at $63,000.
