Toyota to tie up with China's CATL on electric vehicles, with EVs making up half of sales by 2025
June 7, 2019 Japan Times - Toyota Motor Corp. aims to have half of its global sales come from electrified vehicles by 2025, five years ahead of schedule, and has said it will tie up with Chinese battery-makers to accommodate an accelerated shift to electric power.
There “may be a gap” between Toyota’s battery needs and what it can produce, as stringent emissions regulations expected in Europe, Japan and China fuel demand, Executive Vice President Shigeki Terashi told a briefing.
Hybrid vehicle sales volumes are projected to be less than battery EV volumes by 2025, with the latter expected to still be fewer than 1 million vehicles, he said.
Note: Terashi has been head of Toyota’s Advanced R&D group since January 2018.

Toyota pulls forward electrification plan, eyes solid-state battery next year
June 7, 2019 TOKYO -- Toyota is ramping up electric vehicle deployment plans, pulling forward its goal of selling 5.5 million electrified vehicles by five years and aiming to develop a solid-state battery by next summer (i.e. summer 2020) as it races to meet a "sudden surge" of EV popularization.
Executive Vice President Shigeki Terashi, Toyota's r&d chief, outlined the new roadmap in a June 7 briefing about the company's EV plans.
"If possible, by the time we have the Olympic games next year, we would like to make sure that a solid-state battery can be unveiled to the public," Terashi said.
Indeed, Terashi cited a "sudden surge" in their popularization for revising the EV rollout.
"Progress has surpassed the target," Terashi said. "We have entered a new age."
Terashi said, adding that a new approach was crucial. "Unless we work on this at a very accelerated manner, we will not be able to ensure our future survival."

Opel/Vauxhall Corsa BEV
So what do people think of Opel`s new EV?
Price=30k dollars
50KWT battery with range 330KM WLTP (which is most likely around 205km in real life)
They seem to be extremly focused on their Matrix LED headlights...

I personally like its design, but the price is what concerns....
And another thing i REALLY dont understand... WHY do car manifacturers keep building EV`s like their ICE? has Engine in the front, strange battery placements and so on... Mercedes does the same with the EQC... Its like theyre not designing the car as...MagnusAG99 Jun 9, 2019 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,982 Likes: 0 Replies: 22 -

Green Car Reports article
I just wanted to share this article over at green car reports dot com. Not necessarily suggesting I agree or disagree with his sentiments. There are over 300 comments that are challenging to read at times, so I would suggest just taking a glance at the article itself.
As a Midwesterner in the Twin Cities, I think it's clear that the infrastructure for EV is not there, yet. I would struggle as the author suggests to find super chargers and or other places to charge in more rural areas of the state on road trips, etc.

Toyota Believes Fuel Cell Prices Will Match Hybrids
Toyota - skeptical about all-electric cars, but amazingly optimistic about hydrogen fuel cell cars.
According to Matt Harrison - Executive Vice President, Sales, Toyota Motor Europe, the Japanese manufacturer believes that within 10 years, prices of hydrogen fuel cell cars will match hybrid car prices.
"By the third generation we fully expect fuel cell costs to be comparable with hybrids. We believe fuel cell vehicles have a huge potential,"
When we look at the current prices in the U.S. the FCVs cost roughly twice as much as regular hybrids:
- Toyota Mirai (FCV): from $58,500 ($43,500 after deducting $15,000 in fuel over three years)
- Toyota Prius (HEV): from $23,770
