EVs and market share
Source: https://www.spglobal.com/mobility/en/research-analysis/new-ev-entries-nibbling-away-at-tesla-ev-share.html
Regardless of brand or price point, early S&P Global Mobility data suggests consumers moving to electric vehicles in 2022 are largely doing so from Toyota and Honda - brands which have been unable to keep their internal combustion owners loyal until their own brands begin to participate more significantly in the EV transition.
While both Japanese companies built a US legacy with phenomenal fuel economy and powertrain technologies - including electrification through hybrids, plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell electric vehicles - both have been caught flat-footed in the context of 2022. S&P Global Mobility conquest data for Tesla's Model 3 and Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq5, and Chevrolet Bolt show strong captures of buyers from the two...bwilson4web Dec 1, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 713 Likes: 0 Replies: 3 -

Corvette to Launch as a Brand in 2025 with a Four-Door and an SUV

Reuters reports
Source.
Nov 28 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) is developing a revamped version of Model 3, according to four people with knowledge of the effort, as the top EV maker aims to cut production costs and boost the appeal of the five-year-old electric sedan.
One focus of the redesign codenamed "Highland" is to reduce the number of components and complexity in the interior of the Model 3 while focusing on features that Tesla buyers value, including the display, …
Now if it can come with a factory tow package.

Toyota’s New Electric Motors Will Catapult Them To the Top of the EV Market
While it’ll take a a few years, looks like 2027 will see the breakthrough in efficiency and battery technology for Toyota (and 3rd generation e-axle)
We’ll see some improvements as early as 2025 though with the 2nd generation e-axle.Tideland Prius Nov 26, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,579 Likes: 6 Replies: 21 -
Autoline reports on SAE PHEV conference
I was of mixed mind about adding this to the Toyota PHEV thread but it is generic to the whole PHEV market:
- Some countries require a 50 mile EV range to get a subsidy
- At 50 mile EV range, the PHEV become cost competitive with a BEV having a 250 mile range
- Many PHEVs are not plugging-in but just using the PHEV label for exclusive travel lanes
- 2014 BMW i3-REx, 72 mi EV, 0.647 L engine - we still have this car originally as backup for our Tesla Model 3 Std Rng Plus. The small engine and battery gives a 140 mile range. However, my wife loves it getting $2.75/100 miles EV yet able to drive in one day over 700 miles using the REx. It has ~75,000 miles and is her daily driver. It charges twice as fast as our former Prius Prime and has 50 kW DC charging.

Aussi EV Survey
Originally referenced in a YouTube video, this survey applies to my experience in the USA. One teaser being Tesla owners have almost no range anxiety which given the low density of SuperChargers in Australia goes against the common wisdom.
Source: https://thedriven.io/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/TOCA-Report_FINAL-1.pdf
In total, 741 Tesla owners responded to the survey, from across the country, making up 51% of the total TOCA membership. This is a significant response to a self-reporting survey, and one of the largest surveys of EV owners in Australia.
A wide range of Tesla owners were surveyed, including many that have owned EVs for several years, and have long-term experience in driving and charging their EV.
Respondents to this survey provided information on vehicle owner demographics, charging behaviour, and total cost of ownership, helping to gain a better understanding of EV...bwilson4web Nov 24, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 610 Likes: 0 Replies: 5 -
What octane gas are you really putting in your car
When you pull in for gas , I am wondering the distance between the nozzle you put in your tank and the underground valve that connects the proper underground reservoir, according the octane you choose.
Playing with calculators here is what I observe.
For the purpose of the discussion the pipe is 1 inch inner diameter. So the previous fill up was 87 octane you choose to fill up with 91 octane.
It turns out that the first gallon pumped in your car will be 87 octane even if you choose 91.if these condition are met
1- distance between nozzle and switching valve is 25 feet and piping is one inch inner diametre.
Does someone know the specifics of switching octane at the pump ( piping diameter, the switching octane valve distance. etc

A recent Toyota questionaire
This AM got a 10 page online questionnaire from Toyota about what features I'd be interested in and which I'd be willing to pay $10-$25 a month for. Included were ride sharing, would I be interested in fuel cell, hybrid, electric, etc.
Most of the features were ones Tesla already has at no charge.
They didn't ask me how old I was, what I made or when I would buy my next car.mikefocke Nov 19, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 797 Likes: 1 Replies: 14 -

Hydrogen HUB's coming
"Clean hydrogen hubs will create networks of hydrogen producers, consumers, and local connective infrastructure to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier that can deliver or store tremendous amounts of energy.
The production, processing, delivery, storage, and end-use of clean hydrogen, including innovative uses in the industrial sector, are crucial to DOE’s strategy for achieving President Biden’s goal of a 100 percent clean electrical grid by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Hydrogen energy has the power to slash emissions from multiple carbon-intensive sectors and open a world of economic opportunity to clean energy businesses and workers across the country. Getting hydrogen right would mean unlocking a new source of clean, dispatchable power, and a new method of energy storage. It would mean another pathway for decarbonizing heavy industry and transportation."
