SHANGHAI AUTO SHOW: Lexus plans its first EV for Europe, China push
SHANGHAI — Declaring that a pure electric vehicle is necessary for China and Europe, Lexus International President Yoshihiro Sawa said last week that the luxury brand is working on its first EV.
But exactly what it will be and when it will appear, the Toyota marque is still trying to figure out.
"Definitely here we need an EV in the future," Sawa said last week in an interview at the Shanghai auto show, where Lexus debuted its LM luxury van. "But I cannot say when or how."
China's strict emissions controls and mandates for electric vehicle credits are driving automakers into EVs. And Lexus will also need them in Europe, where certain cities have strict EV requirements, Sawa said. Launch timing will hinge on the course of regulation, he added. -

Tesla Model 3 becomes focal point for EV debate between VW and Toyota
Toyota Motor Corp. executive vice president of sales Bob Carter. Addressing the attendees of the event roughly an hour after the Volkswagen executive, Carter argued against all-electric vehicles, stating that EV batteries are still far too expensive to be feasible. The executive stated that Toyota will eventually introduce an all-electric vehicle too, though he declined to give an estimated date for the vehicle’s release.

Shanghai, China, April 16, 2019―Toyota announces that today the company premiered its C-HR and IZOA battery electric vehicles (BEVs) as part of its activities on the opening day of Auto Shanghai 2019. The C-HR and IZOA will be the first BEVs to launch in China under the Toyota brand. Sales on the new models are slated to start from 2020.

"The TCEQ has received a sufficient number of applications to award the allocated 2,000 electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles under the Light-Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive Program, and suspends acceptance of applications for electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles effective Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m."
Was set to sunset on May 31st but the entire fund has been allocated. This was the second time it has been offered so maybe there will be another program authorized during the current legislative session. (fingers crossed) -
