Tesla is Going Out of Business, says former GM Vice Chairman.
11/17/2017: Tesla is 'going out of business,' says former GM exec Bob Lutz
Tesla is a "losing enterprise" that won't last, Bob Lutz, former vice chairman of General Motors, told CNBC on Friday.
"The company, folks, is going out of business. At this rate they'll never get to 2019," the well-known Tesla skeptic said in an interview with "Power Lunch."
Among the issues facing the electric-car maker are fixed costs that are out of control, an inefficient manufacturing operation and no dealership network, Lutz said.
Plus, there's nothing about Tesla (TSLA) that can't be easily duplicated by other automobile companies, he argued.
"There is no secret sauce in Tesla. They use the same lithium-ion batteries as...exstudent Nov 18, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 18,423 Likes: 0 Replies: 187 -
Wipe out any progress we've made, right?
By 2019, Volvo says that every new car model that it sells will either be electric or a hybrid. By 2023, Ford plans to have 13 new electric or hybrid cars and GM will introduce 20 new electric cars. By 2025, Volkswagen plans to have launched around 30 new electric cars, and five years later, it will offer an electric version of every model it sells. But all of the manufacturers are also part of an auto industry trade group in the U.S. that is lobbying to weaken fuel economy standards.

Tell Congress: Keep the EV Tax Credit
As new EV models come to market, automakers and drivers alike need to be able to count on policies that foster innovation and support a flourishing market. This is why we at ChargePoint support initiatives that protect American innovation, leadership, jobs, and help reduce emissions by increasing the adoption of electric vehicles.
We ask you to join us and other EV enthusiasts in signing this petition asking Congress to retain the EV tax credit.

Saw an Ioniq today
Saw a white Ioniq hybrid on my way to work this morning, near Park & Preston.
It's rather 2nd Gen looking in appearance, not even as striking as that. Anybody else have any thoughts?

GM EV Roadmap

In the Bible Belt, there is a tendency for converts to become the 'true believer' whose enthusiasm can make them into a pest. They go overboard and I catch the same whiff from this presentation. I'll feel better when I see product beyond the Volt and Bolt.

Fewer autos, more miles, and more oil 2040
Every now and then I come across a study that on the face of it makes me laugh:
Source: Fewer Autos Will Drive More and Oil Use Will Rise by 2040 | TheDetroitBureau.com
The study reveals auto sales are going to decline steadily between now and 2040, especially in large markets such as the United States, China and India, the number of miles driven will continue to rise. Perhaps just as surprising, more than 80% of those miles will be traveled in vehicles using some form of gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles.
Researchers predict that annual sales of privately owned vehicles in the United States, Europe, China and India will decline from 67 million vehicles annually to 54 million in 2040. However, the number of miles traveled globally will rise 65% to around 11 billion miles a year.
“A great ‘automotive paradox’—where more travel via car than ever, but fewer...bwilson4web Nov 14, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,450 Likes: 0 Replies: 8 -
No VW Plug-in hybrids
Source: VW Won’t Offer Plug-In Hybrids in America | News | Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog
- C/D: You say the Tiguan will become the world’s biggest-selling SUV, but it doesn’t have a hybrid powertrain yet.
- HD: No, not in Europe.
- You showed the concept car originally as a hybrid, and it’s not a hybrid.
- We will have a hybrid.
- In Europe?
- It’s not yet decided.
- In America?
- No. For America, plug-in hybrids don’t make a lot of sense for the upstream emissions, and they’re just not incentivized by the tax schemes.

Another Fuel Cell Article
Source: Toyota Mirai Chief Engineer Says Musk's Right About Electric Cars
Tanaka explained that the goal is to raise the car’s “practical range” to about 500 km (310 miles) due to the lack of charging infrastructure. As part of a joint effort with Nissan in Japan, the companies have built a network of 91 total hydrogen refueling stations, which is hardly enough to make the vehicles practical, regardless of range.
Editor’s Note: Because the obvious backstory is not being brought forward by Toyota, we’d like to take a moment to comment on the other and likely main reason the Toyota Mirai is still a “thing” in the US over a fully-electric option from the company.

UKs Daily Mail peddles half truths to knock green motoring
Ok it's the Daily Mail so we don't expect them to let the truth get in the way of a good story.
See below.
Here are a few reasons why this is not right. I am sure there are many more.
1. The M.I.T. study is based on U.S. power generation, and climate the vehicles on that basis. This may be true in the U.S. but not necessarily elsewhere. But it is a politically decided fact about electricity supply rather than an inevitable fact about electric cars. The same newspaper campaigns for low electricity prices and against wind farms!
2. The Mail article says that 51% of the energy generated in the UK and used to power an electric car is from fossil fuels such as coal and gas. This figure is about right in terms of current uk electricity generation mix nationally, but it is not at all true to say that this is necessarily the mix that goes into every electric car. For example, most of the car charging points that I see at motorway service stations are run by Ecotricity, which is a...GT4Prius Nov 10, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 2,807 Likes: 2 Replies: 16
