There’s a puzzling power struggle going on in Germany. The federal government, cheered on by various industry trade groups, has grand plans to build a hydrogen fuel cell ecosystem. However, two of the country’s three major automakers have stated in no uncertain terms that hydrogen fuel cells are unsuitable for passenger vehicles, and that battery-electric vehicles are the way forward (a conclusion that Tesla’s founders reached back in 2003, and that Elon Musk has reiterated in colorful terms many times).

Works for me. We're seeing legacy leaders who have not gotten the memo that hydrogen is too expensive except by taking tax funds from other services.

Ammonia and methanol are seen as the top two fuels for reducing carbon emissions in the shipping industry. Batteries simply aren't practical for crossing an ocean. Ammonia can be made from green hydrogen, and has a big advantage over hydrogen when it comes to storage and transport. 5% added to gasoline is reported as possible without modifying current cars. It can also be used in a fuel cell, and article mentions another project working on that.

In case you were looking for additional discounts when buying a new electric vehicle, then this new so-called ‘ Clean Fuel Reward ‘ may be of interest to you. It makes all EVs and some PHEVs purchased in the state of California $1,500 cheaper, and the only criteria is to have a certain size battery pack.
Its introduction can be credited to the California Air Resource Board (CARB) and local power providers and it actually applies to all fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. You can still benefit from it regardless if buy or lease a new plug-in vehicle in the state, although said vehicle does have to be registered in California and the buyer needs to be a state resident - buying one...
