Ahh, the venerable Toyota Prius.

One of the pioneers of the hybrid movement – Toyota was one of few to do a hybrid at the outset, but now pretty much every manufacturer has one – it has over the years developed not necessarily a cult following (it’s way too mainstream for that) but a strong following that runs the gamut from taxi cab drivers to movie stars like Leonardo di Caprio and Cameron Diaz.

Indeed, even as the hybrid market has grown, the Prius has kind of managed to exist in a class all its own thanks to its size; many manufacturers are doing hybrid midsize sedans and crossovers, but hybrid compact hatches like this have pretty much boiled down to the Honda Insight (gone), the Prius, and the Chevrolet Volt, although that’s a range-extended EV as opposed to a more traditional hybrid as seen here.

Toyota to study Mirai-derived fuel-cell tech for heavy-duty trucks

Toyota announced on Thursday that it will begin testing in two California ports a hydrogen fuel-cell heavy-duty truck adapted from the Toyota Mirai's powertrain for drayage use.

Initially, Toyota is looking at how it can use hydrogen fuel-cell-powered vehicles to significantly reduce vehicle emissions in short-haul situations, such as at distribution centers.

Drayage is a logistics industry term for transporting goods between long-haul transportation modes like trains and ships.

2010 Lexus HS 250h sedans recalled for potential hybrid-system failure

Some owners of the 2010 Lexus HS 250h will find an unfortunate notice in their mailboxes next month.

Lexus has issued a recall of the hybrid car over the hybrid transaxle, which can potentially fail altogether.

If an affected HS 250h's hybrid system does go kaput, the luxury brand says power steering and brake assist functions will work normally, but the system's shutdown increases the risk of a crash at higher speeds.
