New [Increased] Rebates on the Way for Electric Vehicles [in Ontario]

Ontario is introducing a new, modernized Electric Vehicle Incentive Program to help fight climate change by making it easier for people to switch to an electric vehicle.

The province's first Electric Vehicle Incentive Program was launched in 2010. Through this program, incentives were provided for the purchase of 4,800 electric vehicles and about 1,100 home chargers. There are about 5,800 electric vehicles in the province at this time.

The new program will:

increase the current incentive range for electric vehicles from $5,000 - $8,500 to $6,000 - $10,000

provide an opportunity to receive an additional $3,000 incentive for vehicles with larger battery capacities

provide an additional $1,000 for vehicles with five or more seats

continue to provide incentives linked to battery capacity of more than 5kilowatt-hours

cap incentives for vehicles priced between $75,000 and $150,000 at $3,000

continue to provide up to $1,000 for the purchase and...

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed new regulations that will prohibit road-going vehicles from being converted into race cars.

Currently, there are exceptions in the Clean Air Act that relate directly to cars converted into race cars, allowing the removal of certain emissions devices like a catalytic converter. This new set of rules would make it illegal to remove these emissions devices from all passenger cars, including those being converted to race cars.

The regulations would also make the sale of certain products that modify emissions illegal, which has caught the attention of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
