WOW, I didn't see this coming.

Prius deliveries for Feb 2012 = 20,589 units. February is never a great month for auto sales because March is the designated 'target month' in 1st Qtr. The new Camry and the Prius family are apparently flying off the lots. These Prius numbers are very close to Corolla deliveries.

With fuel prices escalating quickly toward $4.00+ and with March always being the 'target month' I can't imagine that there will be very many units left on the lots by the end of March. If fuel prices jump quickly I see 2008 all over again.... 5-6 month waiting lists.

There are only so many units that Japan is willing to dedicate to the US Market. Once they're sold it's on to the next month's allocation.

well i dont think March will be better for Prius, despite Prius c... reason being they probably wont have enough cars to sell :). Toyota overall might increase a lot over Feb, but probably not Prius. Unless they ship more than 2k of Prius c...

Japan sales are up 38% for Toyota, large bulk of that increase being Prius Family. I bet they sold 50k Toyota hybrids last month in Japan, if not more.

    !!!!!!!

    That's HUGE !!!! :):):):)
considering that Corolla has always been Toyota's #1 selling car.

well, mark my words - if gas doesnt come down by june, i expect Prius family to reach 30k/month for at least one month this year... if not more!

Feb has never been a great month for Toyota - March is the sale month. So them doing 20k in Feb is big numbers.

Look at it this way - in Jan 2012, all of the hybrids sold 21k... In Feb, Prius alone sold 20k :)

WW corola #1 of all cars, prius #5 toyota behind camry, yaris, hilux(truck). This year prius should move up to number 4. Prius c should count in a different category as it is a different platform, other wise prius family might move up to third best selling car for toyota.

US Camry #1 toyota , followed by corola,.
Sales for Prius liftback and v were very good in February. Camry sales were great in January and February.

Prius should be #3 in 2012, without Prius c... but they will count Prius c into those numbers, so it will get to number #2 spot, maybe even #1 as all new Corolla is coming up and this one will have less sales than last year.

in 2012 Prius liftback should raise sales by at least 30% and possibly more, due to doubling of Japanese sales, and nice rise in US sales due to price of gas.

Just to put some perspective on it, Corolla (including Matrix) was only the 9th best selling automobile in the USA last month, when historically it has been top 5. The good news for Toyota though is that the Corolla is still selling over 20k per month even though it's old.

If they don't include PiP or c I'd expect a small drop in March, despite higher prices. I think the deals on the 2011s have been boosting sales numbers of the liftback: the market is extremely price-sensitive, in part because there's more competition than ever.

It was 5 world wide and 3 in the us as I said in my thread.
It was not close at all to camry sales. Are you predicting the the prius will outsell the yaris, the current #3 world wide and the camry the current toyota #2 world wide. I don't think so at all. Camry outsold prius family by over 60% last month in america. Corrola may fall behind elantra this year, but it was the best selling car not just for toyota last year.

Toyota may try to not break out the prius c, but analysts will find numbers. Its a really stupid game if they try, and looks bad for the investor relations side of the company. There is no way they can aggregate he aqua with the prius in japan. Isn't the avalon and lexus es closer to a camry than the prius liftback is to the prius c?

Can't we just have a positive prius sales thread, with out this silly over reaching.

Getting back to sales in February and future sales. Read they have 29 day supply for Prius. The plug-ins are being delivered and c's are coming.. I think their will be cars available, though pricing may get back to being closer to msrp...

I think May sales will be impacted... By the way, 30K is pretty high, but possible. I think corolla may drop to #3 in toyota sales, at least for a couple of months...

Feb 2012 was the fourth biggest month ever for Prius sales

    May 07 - 24,009
    Apr 08 - 21,500
    Mar 08 - 20,635
    Feb 12 - 20,589

    The biggest years have been:
    2007 - 181,221
    2008 - 158,884
    2010 - 140,928

If they make the goal, they would blow by their biggest year by 20%.

FWIW, I am seeing Prii all over the place here(Chicago area). I see at least two every time I hit the road.

As to combining all three Prii iterations into one sales category, c.f.

    Ford F-Series
    Silverado & C-K trucks
    Ram Trucks

There's nothing unusual about grouping vehicles this way. Different makers have been reporting this way for some time.

I played golf today. When I pulled in to the parking lot I parked next to a 2010. When I left there were 3 more '10s and '11s in the lot.

Weird situation last year. Went to dinner at a small local bistro. When I came out late at night there were 6 cars in the lot. FOUR of the six were Seaside Blue Gen II Prii. After cocktails, wine and a Sambuca......Which one was mine? My wife drove home ;).

Ford breaks out F150s and gives F series sales. F series is all on the same platform. Including prius c and aqua into prius sales and not also breaking them out would be like combining yaris and corola, two different platforms and saying you are doing it because they are both smallerish cars. Prius liftback, prius v, and prius phv are all on the same platform and share many components and could be put out just as a group.

No problem pushing out the combined figure as well as the break down. Toyota does this for instance giving sales for the Truck group and individually for tundra (down this month) and tacoma (up this month).

Toyota Prius USA and Toyota Prius JPN sales outsold Camry USA+JPN last month. Camry sells only 2k in Japan, and Prius sold 45k+.

    get it? ok :)

p.s. "Prius" meaning Prius family. I think investors like the numbers.

This is how things look from the first month of sales.

Prius started 12 years ago when gas price was $1 per gallon without any tax incentive.

Volt and Leaf started with $7,500 tax credit.
