Fiat says "Don't buy our EV"!?!

    They don't want to sell more than they have to as it's just a compliance car, so the CEO has asked customers not to buy one. Weird that this is happening just days after Toyota dissed their EV offerings.

    The oil companies are biting back I fear.

    It's a salesman tactic. Like when I purchase a car from a dealer and bargain the price down. Eventually, they say they're giving it away. It makes me feel good because I think I got a good deal on it. When in actuality...

    In order to meet CARB compliance, the auto manufacturer has to secure a certain number of ZEV credits by selling BEV, PHEV, etc. If they don't meet the percentage based on their sales volume in the state, they pay a penalty. I'm sure the $14000 loss per 500e is less than the penalty Fiat would pay in penalties for not being in compliance to the ZEV mandate.
