I just bought a 2007 Prius Touring edition about a month ago. My best tank so far has been 48 mpg. I am really hoping to break the 50 mark soon, but I do have some big hills to drive up, which really lowers my mileage.

For the hills - attempt to go slow up them. When going down the next hill hit the gas and get enough speed to make it as far as you can until you have gas it again. Think trucker mentality. Not too sure if that is the best practice but it works for me.

Commute length is emphasized by a lot of people around here, as it should be. But it probably should be emphasized even further. The Prius just doesn't want to turn into "super car" until she has a good 2 miles under her belt for each trip. 50mpg for a 3 mile trip sans EBH sounds about right.

My last tank was 73.0. My efficient driving got me to the 60s, but it's my NOT DRIVING that gets me to the 70s. I walk & bike as much as I can, and rarely do a 3 mile trip. It's the price I pay to post those 70s. Luckily, I AM able to walk & bike a lot. I live in Texas and have "stuff" around :)

If any of you lives in Baltimore I'll fill up your prius gas tank if you drive my 8 mile commute and manage better than 55mpg in 20 mins.

I have driven 560 miles on the car on 46/44 psi and can only muster 47.5 mpg in this second tank over 220 miles in a commute that takes 18 mins.

I hope the break-in period and driving refinement help because this is bugging me!!!

Also willing to consider offers for installing an engine block heater because during these first 5 minutes I invariably get 25mpg.

I'll offer, but I don't think I'll be getting to your area until September if you can wait. Try working on your gliding as much as possible.

I have no option other than to wait, it's kind of hard to glide without holding up traffic in hilly roads with 20 traffic lights. As Baltimore is not a huge city all my trips are either freeway or a 20 min/8 mile drive.

I'll try. I like the competition for better mpg!

I wish! If it was I would be going higher on my MPG rather than trying to hold on.
