First post, having an issue with strong crankcase fumes after egr cooler cleaning and occ install.

Info; 2014 Lexus CT200H. 116,000 miles. I bought at 110,000 and immediately cleaned the egr cooler and valve, intake manifold, pcv valve, and added on oil catch can, changed plugs. Now I am getting a strong crank case fume smell when sitting, it will smell up the whole garage and even sitting outside you will smell it walking by. I rechecked spark plug tightness, and all lines from pcv to occ are tight. I did not replace the metal gaskets on the egr cooler or egr valve... Any ideas? I have also stumbled across a recommendation not to over fill the oil, it was full on the stick when cold, maybe pushing excess oil into the pcv valve, but the oil catch can would he full of oil and it doesn’t get much oil but a lot of gassy condensation milky water needs to be dumped weekly... My only other idea is to replace the pcv valve and the gaskets...Runs great otherwise. No codes.

 

Regarding the oil catch can, it’s a cheap knock off of a moroso with a fine copper diffuser in it, no breather and I sealed the bottom drain plug with pipe thread tape. It has a rubber o-ring sealing the top lid you unscrew to drain. Smell seems strongest by the egr cooler area. The coolant has been staying level since I found it was disappearing and found the egr cooler hose springs clamps leaking coolant by them after cleaning the egr cooler and replaced them with regular screw type hose clamps. I also looked at the top of the pistons with a bore scope, they all look the same and very little carbon deposits at all, had wondered if this is normal, I expected to see more carbon coated to the piston tops but I figured if a head gasket was leaking only 1-2 pistons would look different and give an indication of a problem.
