one of the foglights on my wife's new prius V has been violently introduced to the garage door. Now you might ask how the garage door could possibly jump out in front of the car and hit the light so hard, but that is a subject better left un-discussed. The dealer says they want it for 3 days for the body shop to work over the bumper. I'm assuming for the paint. I think I would rather just leave the battle scars, which aren't bad at all, and get the light reattached. Has anyone ever fashioned their own version of the clip that holds the light to the bumper? Is that something that can be purchased? It has been a little too cold for me to crawl underneath and look at what's left. It appears that half of the clip is still there.

:)Best scenario is to get everything properly repaired. If you decide to just repair the clip, can the clip be purchased from dealer parts and easily reattached to hold the fog light? If so, that's a viable option. Chances are, any repair would require the bumper cover to be removed, which is common on most cars. Surprisingly simple if you have basic mechanical knowledge.

I figured getting behind the bumper cover is no big deal. It's not much of a scuff, I'm sure the car will see worse. It's just that the light mount is molded plastic and that broke.

Nobody will admit they hit the garage door frame, but in a way, that explains what happened. Guess it was a glancing blow.

:) Sounds familiar at our house. Just my wife and me. If I didn't do it, then it's a process of elimination.

Ah, the frame. Obviously, it jumped out and struck the bumper...

"JB Weld" at your local auto parts store. Epoxy-like stuff hardens up, lasts forever.
