I installed some vent shades on our 2010 to allow for venting and avoid water intrusion or others knowing the windows were open ;):

What I do is try to park in the shade whenever possible. Barring that, I use the Sunshade heat shield on my windshield. It's available on this site, but several people have experienced delivery problems. The only other place I've found it is from the maker for a few dollars more than here.

I also use the vent shields so I can leave the windows cracked open a little bit. Those combinations drop the inside temperature quite a bit. And I always keep the cargo area cover in place.

All that said, it gets considerably hotter in the midwest than it does here in Florida. I grew up in NW Iowa and it was over 100 lots of the time. It's just that here it's hot for a LOT more days.

So don't let the heat deter you. There are lots of Prii in the south that have plenty of miles and years on them.

'Heat' is not so much the problem as "Heat inside the Battery". Folks who live in the mountains build up heat charging and discharging very rapidly on hills. There are no hills in Florida, let alone south Florida. This will work in your favor.

The A/C cools the big battery, run A/C to treat the battery good. Avoid huge charge/discharge cycles when it is hot inside the car. In FL that should be easy.

Good tint to the legal limit in FL
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 28% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 15% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 15% of light in.

The window shades while parked will help. (PriusChat has then for back and sides as well)

Of course. I live in Florida. Im almost always using the AC. My main concern is the summer heat in mid july as the car bakes under the sun and the interior is 140F+

What is the cargo area cover? Is tha like a tarp or something you throw over car?

Hmmm. Well that helps ease my concerns. Thanks.

there's a tonneau cover that rolls out in side the hatch to hide anything in there. it also helps keep the sun off the battery area a bit.
it should come with the car, unless they lose it.

Alright well that settles it for me then. My plan:

    White color car
    50% tint windshield
    25% surrounding windows
    Sunshade on windhsield while parked
    Rain shields/windows cracked open
    Cargo cover
AC while driving (typical for me)
    No intense charge/discharge cycles

That happens to all of us, too. Just click Report on all but the one you want to keep, and the moderators will whisk the others away.

(I would be sure I understood Florida's tint law on tinting a windshield)

I used to think that too......until I lived here a while. There ARE hills.

Of course, a lot of them are overpasses on the Interstates. :ROFLMAO:

    Too true!

According to peakbgger.com, the highest point it FL is Britton Hill, 345' above sea level. There are several "Mounts" such as Sugarloaf Mountain, but those terms are exaggerated. AFAIK, no one has ever experienced altitude sickness in Florida.

I remember all the little causeways between Miami and Miami Beach, aren’t those hills? or elongated speed bumps.

Let’s face it, the whole portion of Fl is/ was man made. Nature knew what she was doing and did it well.
The US Army Corps of Engineers contributed greatly to the destruction and changes to the Okeefenokee swampland. As a result, many creatures have disappeared or been greatly lessened thru sheer ignorance. The only Humans that greatly understood the waterways, and thier benifits. And respected what was there and thiers, was the American Indian tribes. They managed the swampland nicely by doing nothing. This is a very much missed point that the paleface never got. The Indians saved our country so we could come along and destroy it! Aren’t you proud of your ancestors? It’s OK you can condemn them now, they are dead.
