That doesn't make sense - I've never paid tax from Canada... Sounds like a price increase :)

This web site looks out of date and shows only low-res maps for PDA and hand-held devices.

I paid $52 import fees in Northern NJ for the radio.
    UPS took a personal check.

Not much progress has been made so far... My HU still does not work except for the backup camera which is weird. It only works if I put it reverse as soon as I turn on the car. If you put it in reverse 10 seconds later the camera won't work.

So this is what I tried to make my HU work so far:

I downloaded the instructions from the link someone had posted here a while back on how to update the flash but the instructions did not work for me.

First, there is no mini USB port in the back of the head unit to connect my laptop. I tried to connect it using the USB cable supplied with the HU (normally designed for a thumb drive) but the supplied cable is a female plug and so is my laptop. So I bought a male-to-male USB cable and was able to connect my laptop to the HU that way but my laptop did not detect the HU hardware.

Second, the instructions tell you to hold your finger for 8 seconds and once the calibrate screen appears, then you need to press AV button and tap your finger on the upper right corner of the display at the same time to access an on-screen keypad. Well, that did not work for me either.

Yesterday I finally received a reply from the Canadian Flyaudio tech support and I was told the following:

    Hi,Sir
I am afraid that you have to come to my office to upgrade the unit. our address is 350 John St. Thornhill Ontario unit 10.

    thanks

    David

I called David trying to explain that physically coming to his office to upgrade my unit was not feasible and I asked him if I can just get the file I need to load on my microSD card. It was very hard to understand "David" because of his accent (I assume Chinese) but I believe what he told me was that he was going to upload the file somewhere and send me a link and instructions in the email. He said he was busy yesterday and will do it when he has free time. So I will let you know how the upgrade goes once I get the files. If you think that this is a bad customer service, think again because the USA Flyaudio tech support refused to help me at all directing me to the dealer. When I called the dealer, he did not even know what “flash†was. So “David†from the Canadian Flyaudio was extremely helpful so far. Just want to let PC users know that getting tech support or even returning your defective unit after or during warranty period can be extremely difficult. Something to think about before purchasing Flyaudio HU…

Putty, if you could upload the files somewhere for me to try, I'd greatly appreciate it. It's been very boring to drive from and to work each morning...

Btw, not sure why UPS charges customers different amounts for their brokerage fees for identical packages. I had to pay $57 to get my package released from UPS in NJ. Something's fishy here!!!

    Do it carefully.
    1. Be sure all five files to your SD card root directory.
    2. Insert SD card into unit.
    3. Press a center of screen and hold then turn on power until a blue screen come out.
    4. Move away your finger from screen after screen become blue.
    5. insert a pass word. "1630"
    6. choose upgrade automatically. and wait for upgrade finished. (one logo file can be escaped only if no logo file be found)
    7. after finish upgrade unit will be automatically restart.

Success!!! My HU is working again!

So David from Canada Flyaudio tech support finally uploaded the files and they are exact same files as putty's. I followed the instructions and my HU is working again!!!

I hope this story will be a good lesson for future PC members as it was for me.

    Awesome news!

And thanks Putty for the files!

It's good to know we have a fallback in case something goes wrong.
So may be Flyadio (and its people) are not so bad of a company after all.
That's actually one of the reasons why I bought Flyaudio over the Rosen and Ottonavi etc. Because it looks like they have more support and more files around on the Net.

    Putty,
Nice job on being a good backup plan and now knowing we can fix this kind of issue.

It's now confirmed we can reload the radio.
