Ema is female and stands for Electronically Modulated Accessory mainly because the GPS voice is female. Anything with 60+ computers and 100+ sensors in it is definitely an electronic accessory in my world My fiancee named her 2007 Barcelona Red Touring Prius "Myrtle". Again because the GPS voice is female but also because the server at her office, another large electronic item, is named Myrtle so it fit. It is always nice to see our BlackBerries come up with the message "Connection with Ema/Myrtle now established". We love our Prii, happy driving to all!!!!
It seems to me there are really three intertwined matters being discussed here: 1. Did you name your Prius? and, 2. If you named your Prius, does the name reflect a perceived/imposed gender personification? and, 3. How did you come to realize the perceived gender of your Prius? Also, I can see that in the absence of a perceived gender, there are names that are gender neutral; my car is just a thing that I like a lot and don't want to call "The Prius", i.e. ICE, Eco, Bluebird, Grey/Gray Ghost, Night Train. Whatever, that's cool too.
Tony, there was never any doubt! Judy, I can identify with your sentiments. But I began to question how I knew, and how others knew. I would have preferred a girl.
Well, Paul - there's always that old song: "you can't always get what you want" Boy or Girl, I would have loved Fiona anyway, but when "Kermit" popped into my mind as the name for a green car, I think she actually shuddered (maybe that was the ICE shutting down at a stop light?).
Since we are only talking anthropomorphically, I did get what I wanted. I hope you get as much of a kick out of your Silver Pine Mica as I have from mine!
Ours is Phoebe, our RV is Sophie. Our other cars were: Peppi, Reddi, Frog, Smokie, Squeek to name a few. Buck
My "Baby Girl" is less than two weeks old....not sure if this is "her" permanent name or just a nick name... She is SILVER PINE MICA and a "Beauty"...Prettier than what the brochure reveals...She came with Bisque Leather and a few other goodies, and was born a Touring Level 2. Remember "Cabbage Patch Dolls"? They were highly sought after when they first came out and all came with Birth Certificates and names... Prius Chat is SOOOOO Wonderful....Learning Daily
My 2-month old Barcelona Red Prius is named "Manuel". If you get the reference, then we've apparently got a similar sense of humor!
The Prius is an It. The Eggmobile. So named by my niece in retribution for my naming her Scion XB "The Clown Car."
Ours is Rudy. A male. No, I don't know why, or how, but he just told me his name after we had him for a few days... Our other car, a Buick Regal, is The Grand Lady, she won't tell us her name, but she is most definitely the Grand Lady. And a red head. I am an animist -- I figured that out when "inanimate objects" demonstrated personalities to me.
Wife named it Lima Bean its a pkg 3 silver pine. Not sure if Lima Bean has a gender but I always felt a car was a she?
My daughter's car was being worked on, so she commandeered my Prius. She told me she was going to keep "the Prius". I told her it's name isn't "the Prius", it's just Prius. Kind of like Smokey Bear's name isn't Smokey the Bear; it's just Smokey Bear. Likewise, it's Prius, not the Prius. In fact, I told her, its full name is Prius Toyodius. I guess Prius Toyodius doesn't have a gender, as both she and I refer to Prius as "it", but it does have a sizeable wire in the hatchback area, attached to its HV battery. Maybe it IS a He.
Mine is a TCH I named her Betty Lou. Love that song and it just seemed to fit the first night I took her for her first cruise.
My Silver Pine Mica is called Miles. I'm not sure yet if it's male or female. Yeah, Miles is a male name, but it just fit the car. It may get changed to Miley. It was so named because of both the gas mileage and the color. (It's the color I envisioned 'The Mile' was from the King story The Green Mile.)
