I thought all cars were female? like ships....

Anyhow, in French the word for a car is feminine and the GPS is female so....

"Carmine" is most definitely a lady! Although that is not how she obtained her name.

"Carmine" means red, and after a 9 week wait, this CAR is MINE.

She is just a great red gal! I turned 50, got myself a red car, and we are best buddies. :p

My prior cars: Blueberry (an "it," Honda Hatchback, blue of course; I was living in Maine when I bought it) and the Black Stallion (Honda Civic, black) a male, it was so much "higher" than the hatchback.

Blamy: "Electra" is the name of the electric train in Andrew Lloyd Webbers' Star Light Express, a GREAT musical, with all the performers on roller blades. Rumor is, Electra is ac/dc. ;)

Is it a great musical, or is it Andrew "Lloyd" Webber? Make up your mind!

Well, I might not have named the car (what a funny species we are, that our cars have genders..!) if I hadn't had two goofy twelve year old girls in my carpool burst into song this morning, in their best, really loud Ethel Merman voices, all about
"Rhonda! RHHHOOONDA! The car of which I couldn't be...... FONDA!"

    So there you have it.

(Why do 12 year olds know Ethel Merman, anyway??)

"The Professor" doesn't have an official gender. I generally don't want to think of it as a "ship" though because I don't want to go down with my ship. So I don't refer to it as feminine. I guess I think of the car as having a male personality, but I never use gender-specific personal pronouns out loud in reference to the car.

The navi is definitely NOT the actual voice of my car. My car is WAY smarter than the navi is, so that has no bearing on naming or gender assignment.

I named mine "Pepe" because it went with "la Plata", (Spanish for silver) the rest of his name, and besides Pepe is kinda like, well, "peppy" which he is.

The only car I had that really had a nickname I loved was the '69 Mustang I had in college. "el Cid" for the Spanish conquerer. (I was a Spanish major so it was an in joke) :D

Named mine Sprout because I parked her on some dirt , and the next day there were sprouts growing under her. And Sprout is a female because I am a sailor.

Mine is Gracie - gray sedan - female :)

Not the first car I ever named - the history of named cars (most recent going back) is:
    Trixie - 2005 Matrix
    Bee - 2003 yellow beetle
Fern - 1999 Sienna van - cause she was a foreign car (in the south we pronounce 'foreign' as 'fern')
Earl - 1992 caddy (from my daddy :)
Vanna White - white 1986 toyota van
Christine - 1980 Tercel - she was 6 months old when I got her and she had been hit on one side and had a nastry grin on her grill.

My father told me mother name their refridgerator 'David'.......

    an amusing thread.

my first car was a 91 Toyota pickup (pre-Tacoma) named "Lovely Angel" after a starship in a Japanese cartoon. i then continued the theme. my next car was a 2002 Prius named "Blue Angel" because it was that faded blue color and I think I only came across one other one of the same color. my current car is the Salsa Red 2004 Prius called "Angelus", the evil form of Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel TV shows.

Beepy (Beep for short), from B.P. (Blue Prius). Also from the cartoon-like "beep" the horn makes. He's a boy, but before I got him (a week ago) I thought he would be a she. Except now I want to get him a bra so I am worried he'll be embarrassed....

My husband, who is so lucky to get to drive the Menace, is convinced she is a she. I am too, because she acts up for me and doesn't for him.

I think you're right that the Barcelona Reds are female.

Ours is "Princess." I came up with the name just because it is close to Prius. Every time I call the car Princess my little girl corrects me and says "Daddy..it's PRIUS." Now she even calls the car Princess just to see if I will correct her.

If I had to start over, I'd probably name the car after my wife. the Navi has a female voice, sits there and gives me directions all day and has no sense of humor...LOL
