I have looked into several OBD II readers and called tech support about using there products. The maker of one promising tool is Innova model CanOBD2 3110. communication protocalls c.a.n.- ISO 9141- J1850PWM -J1850VPW and KWP 2000 ISO 14230-4. It can retrieves OBD2 DTC's. It can perform drive cycles and alot more. I just wanted to know if anyone has looked into this tool? There tech support said it will read all OBD2 codes (P0,P2,P3, andU1) and manufacture specific codes (P1,P2,P3 and U1) I can use this on all my families trucks and cars. The price was from $199.99 to $240.00 I found it on Amazon.com for $169.99. Under the hood of our 2006 Prius there is an emission sticker and it states OBD2 Compliant. Anyone out there use this tool?

I don't have one of these 'cause I'm hoping CANN-View will be an option for 2006 cars sometime, but others here have recommended the SCANGAUGE. I just checked their website to make sure my link is correct, and I see they have come out with a new version. Might be time to buy.

FYI...
One of Japanese enthusiasts developed a very nice, clear and precise display on MFD.

Wow... looks very nice.
Can we have that translate into English and sell here? That would be a major competition for CAN-View.

Question, is that 05 or 06? Or works in both?

That is very nice. I would get it. I would not have to learn the entire language just a dozen or so characters. You don't even need to know how to pronounce them if you don't want to all you would need to know is what they mean!! Who knows that might be the start of learning the language! If possible extend my congratulation that is good work.

Actually, u don't even need to learn the language. just look at the units, u'll know what each graph means.

I noticed that but there is more to life than units! Besides someone told me that Japanese is difficult to learn. Now that gets my attention.

inlights, sorry about this OT. It looks my post hijacked your thread. <_<

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ScottY @ May 26 2006, 12:10 AM) </div>
Thank you!
I believe English display will be easy because English characters are less than Japanese. :)
It is designed for 2004-2005 Prius, but he said he can build it for 2006 Prius to meet the 2006 display resolution.
Anyway, as you can see the clear display, it is using the analog RGB signal.

Please note that it is still like a baby in pre-alpha stage and hand made for the prototype.
The HW/SW debug will be required for the beta.

The display contents will be changed dramatically. :)
Because the display is so precise and a lot of small things, he could not recognized the data while driving.

Ken this person is very good! Is there a web page. Can we contact him? He (or she? sorry I can not help myself from including women as I deal with them every day as an Ob/Gyn) knows some English and I am not kidding about leaning a few characters that would increase the fun!!! It is really a well designed and elegant display. Please share what you can?

We only contact him at a BBS below and we don't know his mail address yet.
http://eshy.s22.xrea.com/cgi-bin/c-board/c....cgi?id=epv1710

I tried to invite him joining PriusChat, but he said he can only read English and has difficult ability to write.
He has an idle web site and he promisses to open the information to the public on his site later.

Regards,

Can you tell us what other features it has besides the fabulous display? Technically, can-view is more functional and seems to have more features/displays/interfaces (serial, video) ...

This is something I've been waiting on from Toyota, E-Drive, etc ... The Prius should've came like this from the beginning.

Again, it is still pre-alpha stage and its features has not been fixed.
Anyway, it reads CAN messages, therefore it can display any data from CAN.

Whenever he's ready for testing, count me and my '05 in... that display is sweet!
The CAN-View interested me, but to be honest, its UI reminded me of old DOS programs.

I've sat and looked at the display and then copied it and sized it to the screen size and looked at it again in the car and thought the same thing, the display at that size is too small to be usable when your driving. But at least some one else has looked at the problem with the Prius, no instrumentation.

Wow, NICE display. I'm a CAN-View V3 owner and while I love my CAN-View, that display is awesome. Unfortunately I don't understand/read Japanese. but I did find the original post which is at:

http://eshy.s22.xrea.com/cgi-bin/c-board/c...5746;id=epv1710

Most of the Japanese to English URL translators are bad or don't work at all but I found that one that is pretty good. Try:

http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/

and enter the URL above. Then you'll be able to get a "broken English" translation of each post in the thread.

For instance the main post translates to:

Making of fuel cost goods for trial purposes
Hahatarou
06/5/25 (Thursday) 7:29

White Mr. EPV2 and nice to meet you.
It is a person named Hahatarou that became a Prius owner in December the year before last.
We wish always to express our gratitude for valuable information obtained here.

It was stimulated by Mr. GTP of Mr. going, Mr. Attila, and Yami, and I also made the fuel cost goods.
It is a thing and a display update speed that stuck to at which it is made to display in EMV. It was thought that it returned it even a little to getting the dissemination from you always, and made it contribute though the bug remained still a little (The temperature of the engine was a half).

Whatever happened to the display product under development?
