    Hi there,
I found this thing in my hood today and I'm baffled. What is it? How it got there? Any ideas? Thanks! IMG_1798.jpg

That looks similar to some of the insulation used around the car.

Alternatively, the previous owner was trying to keep the engine warm by using insulation (and thus improve MPG). But of course they would've used a Scangauge to monitor engine temperature to ensure it doesn't overheat.

Hi thanks for your reply. I had this Prius for a while but I'm still noob somehow :)
My only explanation is that rat drag it in to make the nest.
Also isn't this insulation flammable to be near the engine?
    Thanks

The rat theory is also a possibility though it seems too neat for that.

Depends on the material and what it's physically touching but yes, it could be a fire hazard.

It's apparent that it's the underhood heat and sound insulation dragged off the retainig clips and down onto the engine. Post a photo of the area under the hood.

How long have you had the car, and how often do you pop the hood?

We had a rat take up lodging in our engine bay, dragged a small, plush toy, housecoat sash and sundry in there. Still, you're pic looks more like humans at work.

BTW: your address is maybe too specific? Unless it's bogus, lol.

It doesn't look anything like the insulation still attached to the underside of my hood.

He's from the Bronx. Doxxing holds no fears, nor does COVID, nor pizza rats, nor much anything else, save not having the cover fee for his favorite watering hole.

Previous owner may have experimented with additional insulation in the hood. And now it came off.
