put the generator in the shed (or build a small insulated structure around it). Vent the exhaust outside, surround generator with the water jugs. the heat the generator puts out should be enough to keep the jugs from freezing solid.

I suspect your water jugs are plastic. Replace them annually to reduce the chance of contaminating the water from the plastic. Over time plastic can leach into the water.

You are right about the contamination, but as long as the water is changed every now and again there won't be much contamination.

Rig the generator to run the water pump when needed.

And get your water contaminated in an attempt to "purify" it.
I'll stick with my tested well water, thanks.

No chlorides & we had an extensive test done through the Virginia Tech well testing program. I have installed a filter to adjust the pH, though.
Virginia Tech were the people whose testing exposed the Flint Michigan water issues.

I got the digital control valve because you can program the flush parameters. I think the size is a little overkill, so we do not flush the media as often or as long as normal.

    They have other options too.

My water was extra soft anyway. It still appears soft, but we have not retested it. Perhaps your county cooperative extension service participates in a well testing program.

They have an easy programming guide that they only distribute of you call them. It contains recommended default settings. See attached.

I have to agree with post #5.
If you've got prolonged temperatures below freezing...any water out in that temperature will freeze.

In an unheated shed? Exactly how fast would be hard to determine. But with low's in the 11-12's and highs in the 20's, I'm going to say solidification of your H2O would happen pretty quickly.

If keeping the water unfrozen is your goal, then storing the water in your house...I'm assuming the guest bathroom is at least connected to heated area's....is your best move.

You want to keep the water from freezing outside in an unheated and relatively unprotected environment? You're going to have to wait until temperatures are routinely "above freezing" which is 32 degrees.

thank you, i'll look into county extension service. meanwhile i have to talk to the board of health and dpw. my we'll guy suspects the chlorides are coming from the excessive salting they do in front of my house, and the only removal system is r/o, which is a poor alternative to eliminating the source.

Call Aqua Science to see what the recommend. They do customer installations in Rhode Island so their offerings are designed for straightforward installation.

They have good customer support too. Their new order picker missed part of my order and they offered to overnight ship the missing part.

If you had a 11w solar panel and 12v batt and inverter you could possibly have a heat source such as a light bulb under the blanket. That is my idea for heating a car overnite but I need to get a temperature measurement to see if it makes a difference.

Or get a few of those hand heat warmers.
