Then it's just semantics. (Or maybe simian antics?)
Instead of eating like chimps, we like eating chimps.

Eating chimps as the transmission mode for AIDS ? Highly doubtful. Feeding them meat -- perhaps.

Take a quick glance at the Wikipedia article on bushmeat. It specifically points out that killing primates for food is routine in Africa. The key transmission could have been by being bitten, but the eating route has a very high probability.

I apologize for my attempt at humor.

In a serious vein: you are confusing things. SIV or HIV does not survive the stomach, or cooking.

Good gosh, my common sense neurons were off. Time to go to bed.

Ah ha! That's it... meat serves the same purpose for chimps that alcohol does for people!

It turns off the common sense neurons, so they will "go to bed"!

Wonder if they wake up in the morning, roll over, and wonder, "WHAT was I THINKING?!?!"

One field experiment with chimps will always stick in my mind. A bunch of bananas was left out for a junior chimp to find. Once he found them, he gave a good ol chimp yell (I found food.)...at which point the alpha chimp promptly came, kicked his butt into the weeds, and ate all the bananas.

When the same junior chimp found the next batch of bananas, he was starting to give the ol chimp yell again, but was desperately covering his mouth as he reallized what he was doing. (Wait - That's the yell for getting my butt kicked)
