Thanks to Toyota astronomical prices, the usual recourse is the to buy knock-off cables and pirated software, likely having virus.

Yes sir, I have experienced the Snap-on scanner that you have.

While it would cost more money, an official TechStream Scanner from Toyota may be the best answer. If you refer back to what Shovelhead 69 said, we agreed that the OBD II codes could read emission codes, not Toyota manufacturer specific codes because they are proprietary (they own the info and are not sharing with anybody). That is common place in today's industry.

So, hometownautomotive, you either believe us which is cheap
Or you take the car to someone with a TechStream.
And lastly purchase or lease that scanner to fix these cars.

My intentions are good, and I was only suggesting a different scanner. Please take these as suggestion only. I know our local Snap-On man tries to make a sale. But he isn't the one fixing the car, either. JTM

The VCI scanner might be knock off copy but the software can be downloaded direct from the Toyota/Techsream web site. Some anti virus software still reports a virus.

And it is the update software (that is not required to diagnose the car) that is associated with the CABLE which is what some virus checkers flag as suspect. The TS software is clean.

But, in any case, treat with caution.
